Summary: Favorable Reviews

One of the easiest tent to set up and takedown. I absolutely love the rainfly. It covers almost the whole tent. No doubt that the material used is of high quality. You can say that just by looking at it.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

I don't get the idea of why a big tent like this has only one storage place inside. Other tents have more storage. The rainfly has no eave so, there is a big possibility that the rain will get inside.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Taurus 5 Outfitter has two doors and a maximum center height of 6' 0 which is a tiny bit smaller than the average height of the 30 various 5 person tents we have studied. With 80 square feet of room inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 5-person tents, and it could be a little tight for you and, up to four other campers during the 3-seasons this tent is suggested for. Smaller tents similar to this one often can make a really nice choice for people that welcome spending loads of hours outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

A few of the fantastic things about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances light, making them easy to carry around. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In good weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are the most commonly seen of all the different types of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the slanted walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the water to pool on the top of the tent. The simplest dome tent should have a rectangular footprint, sloped walls a couple of poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is typically thought of that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Below you can browse an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Taurus Outfitter can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is nice to see Alps adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 0mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  6. Other sizes are available. Alps has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Susceptible to wind. Because of its size and shape, the Taurus may not do well in strong winds if it is not firmly secured with the provided guy lines and stakes. Even though the tent is listed as freestanding in all but very calm conditions, one would want to stake and tie it down correctly.
  2. Not roomy. With a floor area of 80 square feet, the Taurus 5 is smaller than quite a few of the 30 other 5 person tents we have looked at.
  3. No windows. With no windows it is not simple to keep the tent ventilated on a hot summers night.
  4. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately designed for the Taurus 5 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 210D 110T Nylon Oxford, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many qualities to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.2 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.2 STARS

Alps's Taurus 5 Outfitter tent is perfect for car camping. There are a couple of other things not mentioned above which, were noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: The Taurus Outfitter Series has 2 key upgrades: oversized #10 door zippers and a heavy duty nylon oxford floor., For poles, we use aircraft alloy 7000 series aluminum that are strong and lightweight. and The vestibules also serve as automatic guy-out points when the weather gets a little nasty..

With positive ratings, quite a lot of reviews and headroom of 6' and 80 square feet of space for sleeping, this tent is like your own modest home away from home. It will enable you and up to 3 other friends to share some real quality moments camping together. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can read through above.

If you came to this page looking for an endorsement about this particular tent, our view is, it would make for a great acquisition. In case you just happened to land on this page while browsing for a new tent having never heard of this brand or this tent previously, it is possibly a good thing to look at a few other similar tents also.

Value for money: In terms of value for your money, this tent is more pricier than the average price of all the thirty-four, five-person tents we have studied, all alone this is not a negative thing. We also need to take a look at other factors in detail, as we do with every tent.

When we determine the ratings of an individual tent, we regard a lot of stuff, searching for points where the tent could beat other near-identical tents and where it is not quite as good. On this occasion, with a total score of 4.1 and the price statistics above, we can view that with a ticket price of $307.66 info_outline The Taurus 5 Outfitter is a fair deal though it may be thought of as a tiny bit expensive when set side by side with similar tents.

Its ratings show that the build and space the tent provides make it a fair purchase for those wanting a tent that will last for plenty of years. It is also worth noting it is discounted by 21% from the manufactures suggested price. It could make a decent choice for most campers searching for a comfy three-season dome tent to camp with, that should serve you well for years to come.
