Summary: Favorable Reviews

Despite high winds, it didn't phase this one. It's very sturdy, and the material feels durable. Price is right for this one.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

A little bit of moisture can be seen on the inside. But still, it kept me totally dry. The poles can be a little off if not taken properly. I encountered a problem with the shipment, but I called customer service and immediately the problem was fixed.

The Taurus 4 AL has two windows and two doors and a maximum center height of 4' 4 which is 12 inches smaller than the average height of the 129 various 4 person tents we have studied. With 64 square feet of room inside, it is a tiny bit smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, up to three other campers all through the 3-seasons this tent is approved for. Smaller tents similar to this one often can make a very nice choice for campers who welcome spending lots of hours outside the tent exploring.

Some of the great things about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking light, making them easy to carry around. In nearly all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In good weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most common of all the other sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to roll off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the water to pool on the top. The simplest dome tent should have a rectangular footprint, slanted walls a couple of poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Because of their construction, it is usually considered that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Down below, you can see an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

  1. Freestanding. The Taurus AL can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Affords you a place to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is nice to see Alps adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. More than one window. With 2 windows it is simple to keep the tent cool on a hot summers night.
  6. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 0mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  8. Fantastic Ratings The Taurus 4 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on
  9. Available in other sizes. Alps has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great deal for a 4 person dome tent that provides this much space. Not many tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $207.34 info_outline

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 64 square feet, the Taurus 4 is smaller than quite a lot of the 129 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 12% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some campers.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately designed for the Taurus 4 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. A tad heavy for backpacking. Even though the Taurus 4, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 8 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many things to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
  6. Storage Space. Due to the size of the tent, one cannot store much stuff inside..

4.2 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.2 STARS

Alps's Taurus 4 AL tent is great for bicycle & motorbike camping. There are a few other points not noted above which, were found and liked, while reviewing the model: 2 doors and 2 vestibules (one over each door) with extra large #8 zippers, For poles, we use aircraft alloy 7000 series aluminum that are strong and lightweight. and Weatherproof fly buckles on for maximum adjustability and protection.

With superb ratings, a couple of reviews and a peak height of 4' and 64 square feet of area to sleep, this tent is like your own small apartment. It allows you and up to 2 other people to share some delightful moments camping together. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can study above.

If you came to this page looking for recommendations about this actual tent, we consider, it should make for a very good purchase. In case you simply happened to arrive on this page while browsing for a new tent having never heard of this manufacture or this tent previously, it is perhaps a good idea to look at some other similar tents.

Value for money: In terms of value for your dollar, this tent is significantly cheaper than the standard cost of all the one hundred and fifty, four-person tents we have studied, this alone by itself does not make it remarkable value for money. We also need to look at other factors in-depth, as we do for every tent.

When we calculate the ratings of an individual tent, we look at a good deal of things, finding points where the tent could beat other very similar tents and where it is lacking. In this case, with an overall score of 4.2 and the price conclusions above, we can observe that with a price of $207.34 info_outline Alps's Taurus 4 AL is an exceptional bargain and astonishingly cheap when compared with comparable tents.

The ratings show that the quality and size the tent gives you were not in any way compromised to obtain a price unquestionably under the usual price for comparable tents. It could make a fantastic choice for most people searching for an appropriate three-season dome tent to go camping in, that should serve you well for years to come.
