Summary: Favorable Reviews

It can adapt to any season. It's a very flexible tent. I used during rain and windy conditions. I think it is a perfect choice for a family of 3 members.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

The floor is thin. If you wanted to protect the fabric, you should put a tarp to keep it safe. When the vestibules are both closed, it's very hot inside especially during the daytime.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Taurus 6 has two windows and two doors and a maximum center height of 6' 0, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 107 different 6 person tents we have examined With 100 square feet of room inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 6-person tents, and it could be a little tight for you and, up to five other campers during the whole of the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, larger tents similar to this one can make a really good choice for groups who prefer having loads of room inside their tent.

A few of the cool points about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances light, making them simple to carry around. In nearly all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very easy to set up. In calm weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are the most common of all the other types of tents you will find when camping. They tend to fair better in the rain than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the water to pool on the top of the tent. The simplest dome tent will have a square footprint, slanted walls two or more poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Because of their construction, it is typically thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Down below, you can check out a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Taurus can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Offers you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Alps Mountaineering adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. More than one window. With 2 windows it is easier to keep the tent cooler on a hot summers night.
  6. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  8. Available in other sizes. Alps Mountaineering has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  9. Low price. It is a great buy for a 6 person dome tent providing this much room. Not many tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $194.98

CONS

  1. Sensitive to wind. Because of its size and shape, the Taurus may not do well in strong winds if it is not firmly secured with the provided guy lines and stakes. Even though the tent is listed as freestanding in all but very calm conditions, one would want to stake and tie it down correctly.
  2. Not spacious. With a floor area of 100 square feet, the Taurus 6 is smaller than quite a lot of the 107 other 6 person tents we have looked at.
  3. Only one room. The Taurus is recommended for 6 people, some other tents of a similar size have more than one room allowing for a little more privacy.
  4. Fiberglass poles. Poles made of fiberglass help to keep the price down, they do though tend to be not as strong. This is yet another reason to only use the Taurus in decent weather.
  5. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately designed for the Taurus 6 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  6. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of things to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.7 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.7 STARS

Alps Mountaineering's Taurus 6 tent is really good for car camping. Here are a couple of other points not already mentioned above which, we noticed and liked, while researching the model: Mesh roof vents increase ventilation and improve star-gazing, ALPS tents each come with a factory sealed fly and floor seams to give you the best weather protection and keep you dry. and Easy entry and great ventilation with two doors (both with zippered mesh windows).

With positive ratings, a decent amount of reviews and a minimum headroom of 6' and 100 square feet of area to sleep, this tent is like your own modest house. It enables you and up to 4 other campers to spend some really enjoyable time exploring the great outdoors. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can read through above.

If you came to this website looking for recommendations on this actual tent, we consider, it would make for a great purchase. If you just happened to land on this website while browsing for a new tent having not heard of this brand or this model before, it is possibly a good idea to check out a few more comparable tents also.

Value for money: When thinking about value for money, this tent is a more competitive than the standard price of all the one hundred and eight, six-person tents we have taken a look at, this by itself does not make it good value for money. We also need to take into account other factors in-depth, as we do with each tent.

When we calculate the valuation of an individual tent, we regard tons of things, looking for points where the tent could exceed other similar tents and where it is not quite as good. On this occasion, with an overall score of 4.7 and the price data above, It is simple to spot that with a price of $194.98 Alps Mountaineering's Taurus 6 is a great bargain and incredibly priced in comparison with comparable tents.

Its ratings show that the quality and space the tent provides were not compromised to finish up with a price unquestionably under the average price for similar tents. It is also worth noting it is reduced by 22% from the manufactures suggested retail price. It should make a remarkable choice for nearly all campers looking for a comfy three-season dome tent to go camping in, that should serve you well for years to come.
