Summary: Favorable Reviews

A 5-star tent. I love that ALPS uses large poles instead of thinner ones. Excellent ventilation and the design is not cheap looking.

Teal Thumbs Down Logo

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Poles may be vulnerable. It's not that durable for me. The design is too weak for me. Zippers are a little problematic if you don't take care of it.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Taurus 4 has two windows and two doors and a peak center height of 4' 4, which is 12 inches less than the average height of the 134 other 4 person tents we have studied. With 64 square feet of room inside, it is a tiny bit smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, up to three other campers during the whole of the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents like this one can generally make an ideal choice for people who welcome spending lots of hours outside the tent exploring.

Some of the great points about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part lightweight, making them easy to carry around. In most all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most commonly seen of all the various types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in the rain than other types, allowing water to roll off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the rain pooling on the top. The most straightforward dome tent will have a rectangular floor, sloped walls two or more poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Because of their construction, it is usually considered that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Beneath you can see a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Taurus can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Alps Mountaineering adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. More than one window. With 2 openings it is easier to keep the tent ventilated on a hot summers night.
  6. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  8. Tons of Positive Reviews The Taurus 4 has Plenty of awesome Reviews
  9. Remarkable Ratings The Taurus 4 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  10. Other sizes are available. Alps Mountaineering has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  11. Low price. It is a great purchase for a 4 person dome tent providing this much space. Not many tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $129.99

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 64 square feet, the Taurus 4 is smaller than quite a few of the 134 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 12% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some people.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately designed for the Taurus 4 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Taurus 4, looks like a small tent, it is not probably the best choice for backpacking as it weighs 10 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of attributes to rave about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

5 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 5.0 STARS

Alps Mountaineering's Taurus 4 tent is good for bicycle & motorbike camping. There are a few other things not already mentioned above which, were found and liked, while reviewing the model: Mesh roof vents increase ventilation and improve star-gazing, ALPS tents each come with a factory sealed fly and floor seams to give you the best weather protection and keep you dry. and Easy entry and great ventilation with two doors (both with zippered mesh windows).

With fantastic ratings, plenty of reviews and a center height of 4' and 64 square feet of space to enjoy, this tent is like your own miniature home away from home. This will allow you together with 2 other friends to enjoy some delightful moments enjoying nature. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can study above.

If you found this page looking for suggestions on this actual tent, we consider, it would make for an excellent buy. If you just happened to arrive on this website while browsing for a brand new tent having not heard of this brand or this tent model before, it is perhaps a good thing to look at some other similar tents also.

Value for money: When contemplating value for your dollar, this tent is without a doubt more competitive than the usual price of all the one hundred and fifty-four, four-person tents we have studied, this alone by itself does not make it remarkable value for money. We also need to think about other areas in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we tally up the score of a tent, we examine plenty of things, finding things where the tent could exceed other near-identical tents and where it is coming up short. In this case, with an overall rating of 5.0 and the price statistics above, It is simple enough to conclude that with a price of $129.99 The Taurus 4 is an excellent deal and astonishingly competitively priced in comparison with comparable tents.

The ratings show that the quality and size the tent offers were not in any way skimped on to get a price undoubtedly below the standard price for similar tents. It is also worth thinking about the fact that it is marked down by 24% from the manufactures suggested price. It will make a very good choice for most campers looking for a comfy three-season dome tent to camp in, that should serve you well for years to come.
