Summary: Favorable Reviews

People who purchased the tent noted: It rained heavily 2 of the four days, and the tent held up perfectly, not a drop got through to the inside. The quality of the materials is superb, and it looks like it could hold its own against mild inclement weather. Great for night star gazing. Plenty of room in the storage bag - so you don't have to get it factory packed to fit it back in the bag. The vestibule was great for holding our muddy shoes and kept our tent cleaner.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who bought the tent mentioned: It is too heavy to carry in a pack. They wished it came with more cordage to tie out the rain fly. It feels like the tent needs another door or window.

The Outback 6 is Kelty's largest tent, and it has one door and a peak center height of 6' 4, which is a little bit more than the average height of the 105 different 6 person tents we have examined With 87 square feet of room inside, it is significantly smaller than some other 6-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, up to five other campers during the whole of the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents similar to this one often can make a fantastic choice for campers that prefer spending loads of time outside exploring the great outdoors.

Many of the fantastic points about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part not too heavy, making them easy to carry around. In nearly all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most common of all the different sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to fair better in bad weather than other types, allowing rain to roll off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the rain pooling on the top. The most basic dome tent should have a rectangular footprint, sloped sides two or more poles which converge in the center of the roof. Because of their construction, it is typically thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Below you can find an account of the tent's pros and cons.

  1. Freestanding. The Outback can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Affords you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Kelty has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. Breathable. The Outback's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  5. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1800mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  6. If you are looking for this actual tent, you are in luck it has been discontinued on the manufactures site, but is still available elsewhere.
  7. Plenty of Positive Reviews The Outback 6 has Tons of fantastic Reviews
  8. Remarkable Ratings The Outback 6 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on
  9. Other sizes are available. Kelty has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great deal for a 6 person dome tent providing this much room. Not a lot of tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $229.95

  1. Sensitive to wind. Because of its size and shape, the Outback may not do best in strong winds if it is not firmly secured with the provided guy lines and stakes. Even though the tent is listed as freestanding in all but very calm conditions, one would need to stake and tie it down correctly.
  2. Not roomy. With a floor area of 87 square feet, the Outback 6 is smaller than quite a lot of the 105 other 6 person tents we have looked at.
  3. No windows. With no windows it is not easy to keep the tent ventilated on a hot summers night.
  4. Only one room. The Outback is designed for 6 campers, some other tents of a similar size have more than one room allowing for a little more privacy.
  5. Fiberglass poles. Poles made of fiberglass help to keep the price down, they do though tend to be not as strong. This is yet another reason to only use the Outback in decent weather.
  6. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately designed for the Outback 6 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 68D Polyester, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  7. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many attributes to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

4.7 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.7 STARS

Kelty's Outback 6 tent is suitable for car camping. There are a couple of other nice points not mentioned above which, were noticed and liked, while researching the model: The easy-to-use attached guylines help stabilize the tent in windy conditions, Optimum comfort at an affordable price point, that's the Outback and Vestibule with two stake points and guyout storage pockets.

With exceptional ratings, lots of reviews and a minimum headroom of 6' and 87 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your own little house. This enables you together with 4 other friends to spend some real quality time enjoying nature. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can check out above.

If you came to this page looking for suggestions on this actual tent, our view is, it should make for an excellent buy. If you just happened to land on this page while looking for a brand new tent having never heard of this manufacurer or this model previously, it is perhaps a good idea to look at a few other comparable tents.

Value for money: When thinking about value for your dollar, this tent is undoubtedly more competitive than the standard cost of all the one hundred and six, six-person tents we have studied, this itself does not make it remarkable value for money. We also need to take into account other things in detail, as we do with each tent.

When we measure the overall score of a tent, we look at a lot of stuff, searching for points where the tent could outshine other similar tents and where it is lacking. In this case, with an overall rating of 4.7 and the price info above, we can notice that with a cost of $229.95 Kelty's Outback 6 is a remarkable buy and astonishingly cheap in comparison with similar tents.

The overall score shows that the quality and capacity the tent gives you were not in any way skimped on to finish up with a price tag significantly under the standard price for similar tents. It is also worth thinking about the fact that it is marked down by 0% from the manufactures MSRP. It should make a superb choice for most people looking for an appropriate three-season dome tent to go camping in, that will serve you well for years to come.
