Summary: Favorable Reviews

Meramac 5 is so easy to set up, and it ventilates very well. I was amazed at the fact that it survived heavy rain. I didn't collapse. It stood firm and protected me during the rain.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Windy conditions are not the perfect weather for this tent. It can handle a little wind, but when it is very strong, it may bend some. I wish they added some tie-downs to secure it. Same as when it rains, heavy rain is its weakness.

The Meramac 5 has two windows and two doors and a peak center height of 6' 0, which is a little bit less than the average height of the 30 other 5 person tents we have examined With 80 square feet of space inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 5-person tents, and it could be a little tight for you and, up to four other campers throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents like this one often make a really nice choice for people who enjoy spending loads of time outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

A few of the great things about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part light, making them simple to carry around. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most common of all the other types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in the rain than other types, allowing water to roll off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the rain to pool on the top. The most straightforward dome tent will have a square footprint, sloped walls two or more poles which cross in the center of the roof. Because of their construction, it is typically thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Underneath you can browse an account of the tent's pros and cons.

  1. Freestanding. The Meramac can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Alps Mountaineering adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  3. Has awnings. The awnings shelter the walls of the tent.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. More than one window. With 2 windows it is simple to keep the tent cooler on a hot summers night.
  6. Breathable. The Meramac's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  7. Available in other sizes. Alps Mountaineering has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  8. Low price. It is a great purchase for a 5 person dome tent providing this much space. Not a lot of tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $153.98

  1. Vulnerable to wind. Because of its size and shape, the Meramac may not do best in strong winds if it is not firmly secured with the provided guy lines and stakes. Even though the tent is listed as freestanding in all but very calm conditions, one would need to stake and tie it down correctly.
  2. Not spacious. With a floor area of 80 square feet, the Meramac 5 is smaller than quite a lot of the 30 other 5 person tents we have looked at.
  3. No Vestibules. If you want to keep your dirty shoes, clothes, and backpacks protected from the rain etc, you need store them inside the tent.
  4. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately specifically for the Meramac 5 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many things to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

Our Ratings: 4.2 STARS

Alps Mountaineering's Meramac 5 tent is good for car camping. Here are a couple of other things not noted above which, were noticed and liked, while researching the model: Our fiberglass poles are also normally one size larger than normal to offer you a sturdier, stronger tent., There are extra-large #8 zippers on the door and vestibule and The fly uses a pole in the top, which gives you an awning over each door for excellent rain protection.

With good ratings, tons of reviews and headroom of 6' and 80 square feet of space for sleeping, this tent is like your very own modest apartment. This will allow you and up to 3 other people to enjoy some delightful moments camping together. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can check out above.

If you found this website looking for suggestions on this specific tent, we consider, it should make for a good acquisition. In case you just happened to arrive on this website while looking for a brand new tent having not heard of this manufacurer or this tent model previously, it is perhaps a good thing to look at a few other similar tents also.

Value for money: When thinking about value for your money, this tent is a lot more competitive than the usual price of all the thirty-four, five-person tents we have studied, this by itself does not make it good value for money. We also need to take into account other areas in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we calculate the score of a tent, we consider a lot of stuff, looking for points where the tent could perform well against other very similar tents and where it is not quite as good. On this occasion, with an overall rating of 4.2 and the price data above, It is simple enough to identify that with a cost of $153.98 The Meramac 5 is a fair purchase and fabulously priced when compared with comparable tents.

The ratings show that the quality and dimensions the tent provides were not compromised to arrive at a price tag well below the normal price for similar tents. It is also worth noting it is reduced by 30% from the manufactures suggested price. It will make a superb choice for most campers searching for a comfy three-season dome tent to camp in, that will serve you well for years to come.
