Summary: Favorable Reviews

Meramac 5 is so easy to set up, and it ventilates very well. I was amazed at the fact that it survived heavy rain. I didn't collapse. It stood firm and protected me during the rain.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Windy conditions are not the perfect weather for this tent. It can handle a little wind, but when it is very strong, it may bend some. I wish they added some tie-downs to secure it. Same as when it rains, heavy rain is its weakness.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Meramac 5 has two windows and two doors and a maximum center height of 6' 0 which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 30 different 5 person tents we have looked at. With 80 square feet of space inside, it is a tiny bit smaller than some other 5-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, up to four other campers during the 3-seasons this tent is recommended for. Smaller tents like this one can generally make a really nice choice for campers that appreciate spending lots of time outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

A few of the cool things about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances not too heavy, making them simple to carry. In most all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very easy to set up. In calm weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most common of all the different types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in storms than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the water pooling on the top. The most basic dome tent will have a square footprint, slanted sides two or more poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is typically thought of that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Beneath you can browse a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Meramac can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Alps adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  3. Has awnings. The awnings shelter the walls of the tent.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. More than one window. With 2 openings it is easier to keep the tent cooler on a hot summers night.
  6. Breathable. The Meramac's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  7. Other sizes are available. Alps has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  8. Low price. It is a great purchase for a 5 person dome tent that provides this much space. Not many tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $174.36 info_outline

CONS

  1. Sensitive to wind. Because of its size and shape, the Meramac may not do best in strong winds if it is not firmly secured with the provided guy lines and stakes. Even though the tent is listed as freestanding in all but very calm conditions, one would need to stake and tie it down correctly.
  2. Not spacious. With a floor area of 80 square feet, the Meramac 5 is smaller than quite a lot of the 30 other 5 person tents we have looked at.
  3. No Vestibules. If you want to keep your dirty shoes, clothes, and backpacks protected from the elements, you need store them inside the tent.
  4. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately specifically for the Meramac 5 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of qualities to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

3.9 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 3.9 STARS

Alps's Meramac 5 tent is ideal for car camping. There are a few other nice points not already mentioned above which, we found and liked, while reviewing the model: Our fiberglass poles are also normally one size larger than normal to offer you a sturdier, stronger tent., There are extra-large #8 zippers on the door and vestibule and The fly uses a pole in the top, which gives you an awning over each door for excellent rain protection.

With nice ratings, plenty of reviews and a center height of 6' and 80 square feet of space for sleeping, this tent is like your own miniature flat. It will enable you and up to 3 other friends to spend some delightful time in the outdoors together. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can study above.

If you came to this page looking for an endorsement about this actual tent, we think, it will make for a decent purchase. If you just happened to land on this page while browsing for a brand new tent having not heard of this brand or this tent before, it is probably a good thing to look at a few more similar tents.

Value for money: As far as value for your dollar, this tent is a lot cheaper than the average cost of all the thirty-four, five-person tents we have studied, this itself does not make it excellent value for money. We also need to take a look at other factors in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we calculate the valuation of a single tent, we study a lot of conditions, finding points where the tent could outshine other very similar tents and where it is lacking. In this case, with an overall score of 3.9 and the price statistics above, It is simple to observe that with a cost of $174.36 info_outline Alps's Meramac 5 is a fair deal and very cheap in comparison with similar tents.

The ratings show that the quality and size the tent gives you could possibly have been on a small scale compromised to obtain a price unquestionably below the average price for similar tents. It is also worth thinking about the fact that it is reduced by 13% from the manufactures MSRP. It will make a good choice for nearly all campers looking for a comfy three-season dome tent to camp with, that will serve you well.
