Summary: Favorable Reviews

The ventilation design is outstanding. I love the idea of having a full door on each side of the tent. The quality that you will get is similar to other tents that cost three times as much.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Not a great tent for windy conditions. If you have any gear, only two people might get in. It's so sad also at the fact that it doesn't have vestibules

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Meramac 3 has two windows and two doors and a peak center height of 4' 4 which is a tiny bit less than the average height of the 126 different 3 person tents we have looked at. With 49 square feet of room inside, it is a tiny bit larger than some other 3-person tents, and it should accommodate you and, up to two other campers during the 3-seasons this tent is suggested for. Smaller tents like this one can generally make a really nice choice for people who appreciate spending loads of hours outside the tent exploring.

Some of the fantastic points about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances lightweight, making them easy to carry around. In nearly all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In good weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are the most common of all the other sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to fair better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the rain to pool on the top of the tent. The most basic dome tent should have a rectangular footprint, sloped sides two or more poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is generally thought of that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Beneath you can check out a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Meramac can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Alps adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  3. Has awnings. The awnings protect the sides of the tent.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. More than one window. With 2 windows it is easier to keep the tent cooler on a hot summers night.
  6. Breathable. The Meramac's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  7. Other sizes are available. Alps has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  8. Low price. It is a great buy for a 3 person dome tent providing this much room. Not a lot of tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $116.78 info_outline

CONS

  1. No Vestibules. If you want to keep your dirty shoes, clothes, and backpacks protected from the rain etc, you will have to keep them inside the tent.
  2. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately specifically for the Meramac 3 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  3. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Meramac 3, looks like a small tent, it is not probably the best choice for backpacking as it weighs 9 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of things to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
