Summary: Favorable Reviews

The ferrules that they used are very helpful. Along with the fact that it serves as connectors that hold the pole together, it was also made from aluminum instead of steel to avoid rusting. Free standing, larger zippers for extra durability, and mesh storage pockets for storing gear.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Sadly, the fly doesn't have windows. Other than this it is an excellent tent.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Meramac 5 ZF FG has two windows and two doors and a maximum center height of 6' 0 which is a tiny bit smaller than the average height of the 30 other 5 person tents we have studied. With 80 square feet of space inside, it is a tiny bit smaller than some other 5-person tents, and it could be a little tight for you and, up to four other campers during the 3-seasons this tent is approved for. Smaller tents like this one generally make a very good choice for campers who prefer spending lots of time outside their tent getting some air.

Some of the great things about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking light, making them simple to carry. In nearly all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very simple to set up. In good weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are easily the most commonly seen of all the various types of tents you will find when camping. They tend to fair better in storms than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the slanted walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the water to pool on the top of the tent. The most basic dome tent will have a rectangular floor, sloped walls two or more poles which converge in the center of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is typically considered that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Down below, you can see a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Meramac ZF FG can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Has Gear Loft. It is nice to see Alps adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  3. Has awnings. The awnings shelter the walls of the tent.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. More than one window. With 2 windows it is simple to keep the tent cooler on a hot summers night.
  6. Breathable. The Meramac's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  7. Great Ratings The Meramac 5 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  8. Available in other sizes. Alps has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Vulnerable to wind. Because of its size and shape, the Meramac may not do best in strong winds if it is not firmly secured with the provided guy lines and stakes. Even though the tent is listed as freestanding in all but very calm conditions, one would want to stake and tie it down correctly.
  2. Not roomy. With a floor area of 80 square feet, the Meramac 5 is smaller than quite a few of the 30 other 5 person tents we have looked at.
  3. No Vestibules. If you want to keep your dirty shoes, clothes, and backpacks protected from the elements, you need store them inside the tent.
  4. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately designed for the Meramac 5 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 210D 110T Nylon Oxford multi-pass urethane coating, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many qualities to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

Our Ratings: 4.0 STARS

Alps's Meramac 5 ZF FG tent is really good for car camping. There are a few other points not mentioned above which, we found and liked, while researching the model: ZF Series: which stands for bigger Zipper and heavier Floor. , We even have our factory seal the seams on the floor and fly for maximum water repellency. and Our fiberglass poles are also normally one size larger than normal to offer you a sturdier, stronger tent..

With superb ratings, a couple of reviews and headroom of 6' and 80 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your very own miniature apartment. This will enable you together with 3 other people to share some real quality moments camping together. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can study above.

If you simply happened to land on this page while looking for a brand new tent having never heard of this brand or this tent before, it is probably a good idea to check out some more similar tents.

Value for money: As far as value for money, this tent is little bit cheaper than the normal price of all the thirty-four, five-person tents we have taken a look at, this alone does not make it good value for money. One should also look at other factors in-depth, as we do with each tent.

When we calculate the score of an individual tent, we regard a lot of stuff, finding things where the tent could exceed other comparable tents and where it is not quite as good. On this occasion, with a total rating of 4.0 and the price conclusions above, we can view that with a price of $246.54 info_outline The Meramac 5 ZF FG is an excellent purchase and cheap in comparison with similar tents.

The ratings show that the quality and size the tent provides were not in any way compromised to arrive at a price tag unquestionably under the standard price for similar tents. It is also worth thinking about the fact that it is reduced by 18% from the manufactures suggested retail price. It will make an exceptional choice for most people searching for an appropriate three-season dome tent to go camping in, that should serve you well for years to come.
