Summary: Favorable Reviews

Great tent for its price. I Didn't encounter any problem while setting it up or taking it down. The materials are superb. Couldn't say anything less about it.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

I don't know how good it is during windy conditions, but it survived and didn't break when I used it during the rain. Three persons for this is also a bit tight if I am going to judge it.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Meramac 3 Outfitter has two windows and two doors and a maximum center height of 4' 4 which is a tiny bit less than the average height of the 126 other 3 person tents we have looked at. With 49 square feet of space inside, it is a little bit larger than some other 3-person tents, and it should accommodate you and, up to two other campers during the whole of the 3-seasons this tent is suggested for. Smaller tents like this one make a very nice choice for campers that appreciate spending loads of hours outside of their tent exploring.

A few of the fantastic points about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part light, making them easy to carry. In most all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In good weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are easily the most common of all the various types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the water to pool on the top. The simplest dome tent should have a rectangular footprint, slanted sides two or more poles which cross in the center of the roof. Due to their construction, it is usually thought of that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Underneath you can find an account of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Meramac Outfitter can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Has Gear Loft. It is nice to see Alps adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  3. Has awnings. The awnings shelter the sides of the tent.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. More than one window. With 2 openings it is easier to keep the tent cooler on a hot summers night.
  6. Breathable. The Meramac's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  7. Fantastic Ratings The Meramac 3 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  8. Available in other sizes. Alps has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  9. Low price. It is a great deal for a 3 person dome tent that provides this much room. Not many tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $241.24 info_outline

CONS

  1. No Vestibules. If you want to keep your dirty shoes, clothes, and backpacks protected from the elements, you will have to store them inside the tent.
  2. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately designed for the Meramac 3 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 210D 110T Nylon, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  3. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Meramac 3, looks like a small tent, it is not probably the best choice for backpacking as it weighs 8 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of attributes to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
