Tent Set Up

Easy setup with Color Coded "Easy Pitch" Clips, Poles and Fly

Green Thumbs Up Logo

Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers who purchased the tent said: They much prefer the new green color, to the previous orange color. Ridiculously easy to set up and tear down. No condensation, the tub at the base is sealed tight, not allowing in any water. Moving at a reasonable pace, you can set up this tent by yourself in 5-7 minutes. It has lots of vertical space and a nifty light device. There's decent ventilation with the fly staked out and the vent open.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

People who bought the tent reported: That airflow on a hot summer night with the fly on was not great. Heavier than similar-sized tents. The poles twist and flip in strong winds. It does not come with enough stakes.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Tungsten 3 has two doors and a maximum center height of 3' 10, which is a little bit less than the average height of the 139 different 3 person tents we have examined With 42 square feet of room inside, it is considerably smaller than some other 3-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, up to two other campers all through the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents similar to this one often can make a very nice choice for people who like spending loads of hours outside the tent exploring.

Many of the fantastic things about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking light, making them simple to carry around. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In good weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most commonly seen of all the different sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in bad weather than other types, allowing rain to roll off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the rain to pool on the top of the tent. The simplest dome tent will have a rectangular floor, slanted walls two or more poles which converge in the center of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is generally thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Underneath you can find an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Tungsten can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Marmot has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your gear.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 68D Polyester Taffeta 190T F/R, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  6. Includes FootPrint. It is quite rare to see a footprint included with a tent. It is suggested to always use a footprint, so not having to buy one is a bonus.
  7. Breathable. The Tungsten's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  8. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  9. Other sizes are available. Marmot has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great deal for a 3 person dome tent providing this much room. Not a lot of tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $279

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 42 square feet, the Tungsten 3 is smaller than quite a few of the 139 other 3 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 8% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some campers.
  3. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Tungsten 3, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 6 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of qualities to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.3 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.3 STARS

Marmot's Tungsten 3 tent is perfect for backpacking. Here are a few other nice points not already mentioned above which, we found and liked, while reviewing the model: This tent has plenty of room with volume-optimizing design and pre-bend for maximum sleeping space, Lamp Shade Pocket Securely Holds Your Headlamp to Provide Ambient Light and Zone Pre-Bend Construction Creates Vertical Walls, More Roomy Sleeping Area and Greater Head Room.

With acceptable ratings, a decent amount of reviews and a minimum headroom of 3' and 42 square feet of area to sleep, this tent is like your very own little flat. It enables you to spend some really enjoyable moments camping. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can read through above.

If you came to this page looking for suggestions about this particular tent, we think, it would make for a decent purchase. In case you simply happened to arrive on this page while looking for a new tent having not heard of this manufacurer or this tent before, it is probably a good thing to look at some other comparable tents also.

Value for money: As far as value for your dollar, this tent is a lot cheaper than the usual cost of all the one hundred and ninety-three, three-person tents we have looked at, all alone this does not make it good value for money. We also need to look at other things in-depth, as we do with each tent.

When we determine the valuation of an individual tent, we examine loads of things, finding areas where the tent could exceed other near-identical tents and where it is lacking. In this case, with a total rating of 4.3 and the price conclusions above, one can identify that with a cost of $279 The Tungsten 3 is a good bargain and astonishingly cheap in comparison with comparable tents.

The overall score shows that the quality and space the tent gives you could have been slightly skimped on to arrive at a price well beneath the usual price for similar tents. It could make a good choice for most people searching for a comfy three-season dome tent to camp in, that will serve you well.
