Summary: Favorable Reviews

Currently, there are no campers who have used the new 2020 Tungsten Ultralight 4p tent and written a review yet! The build and style are nearly identical to the older Tugsten UL 4 Model, which has lots of reviews. Campers who purchased the tent said: It was the best tent ever. The rain fly with its vestibule worked well in blowing rain and hail, keeping the inside of the tent dry. The set up was easy and quick for one person. The tent is spacious inside. The size to weight ratio of the tent was excellent. For as light as it is, I was expecting something smaller. The dual doors and vestibules were a convenient feature for keeping the tent clutter and dirt free.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Currently, there are no people who have used the new 2020 Tungsten Ultralight 4 person tent and written a review yet! The build and style are nearly identical to the older Tugsten UL 4 Model, which has lots of reviews. People who bought the tent mentioned: The fly touches the inner tent in strong winds and rain, resulting in condensation. Drips of water were noted at the vent on the leeward side while we were brushed by tropical storm Alberto's rainbands. Poles are not the strongest.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Tungsten 4 Ultralight 2020 has two doors and a maximum center height of 4' 4, which is 11 inches smaller than the average height of the 140 other 4 person tents we have studied. With 54 square feet of room inside, it is considerably smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you and, up to three other campers during the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents like this one often can make a good choice for people that prefer spending heaps of time outside of their tent exploring.

A few of the cool points about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking not too heavy, making them easy to carry around. In most all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In calm weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most common of all the different sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to roll off the slanted walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the water to pool on the top. The most straightforward dome tent will have a rectangular floor, slanted walls a couple of poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Because of their construction, it is generally considered that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Underneath you can browse an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Tungsten Ultralight 2020 can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Affords you a place to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is nice to see Marmot has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your gear.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is Polyester Ripstop, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  6. Breathable. The Tungsten's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  8. Available in other sizes. Marmot has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 54 square feet, the Tungsten 4 is smaller than quite a few of the 140 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 11% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some campers.
  3. No windows. With no windows it is not easy to keep the tent cool on a hot summers night.
  4. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of Polyester Ripstop but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, more so on rough terrain.
  5. Out of Stock. Unfortunately this particular tent is not currently in stock. It is still on the manufactures site the last time we checked.
  6. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of things to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.4 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.4 STARS

Marmot's Tungsten 4 Ultralight 2020 tent is perfect for backpacking. Here are a few other things not already mentioned above which, were noticed and liked, while researching the model: , and .

With good ratings, and headroom of 4' and 54 square feet of area to sleep, this tent is like your very own small home away from home. This will allow you and up to 2 other people to share some really enjoyable time in the outdoors together. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can look at above.

If you came to this page looking for suggestions about this actual tent, our view is, it would make for a good acquisition. If you simply happened to land on this page while browsing for a brand new tent having not heard of this manufacurer or this tent model previously, it is possibly a good idea to look at some other similar tents.

Value for money: As far as value for money, this tent is a more pricey than the standard cost of all the one hundred and sixty, four-person tents we have studied, this by itself is not a negative thing. We also need to take into account other areas in-depth, as we do with every tent.

When we measure the valuation of a single tent, we look at a good deal of things, looking for things where the tent could excel against other comparable tents and where it is coming up short. On this occasion, with a total score of 4.4 and the price conclusions above, one can spot that with a price of $549.00 The Tungsten 4 Ultralight 2020 is a great buy although it may be considered very expensive when set side by side with similar tents.

The overall score shows that the build and capacity the tent provides make it a good buy for people wanting a tent that will last for many years. It will make an ok choice for most campers looking for a comfy three-season backpacking tent to go camping in, that should serve you well for years to come.
