"Easy pitch" clips and poles make it easy to set up quickly.

Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers who purchased the tent said: It was the best tent ever. The rain fly with its vestibule worked well in blowing rain and hail, keeping the inside of the tent dry. The set up was easy and quick for one person. The tent is spacious inside. The size to weight ratio of the tent was excellent. For as light as it is, I was expecting something smaller. The dual doors and vestibules were a convenient feature for keeping the tent clutter and dirt free.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

People who bought the tent mentioned: The fly touches the inner tent in strong winds and rain, resulting in condensation. Drips of water were noted at the vent on the leeward side while we were brushed by tropical storm Alberto's rainbands. Poles are not the strongest.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Tungsten 4 UL has two doors and a maximum center height of 4' 6, which is a little bit less than the average height of the 134 other 4 person tents we have examined With 51 square feet of room inside, it is considerably smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you and, up to three other campers throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents similar to this one are an ideal choice for campers who appreciate spending lots of time outside their tent getting some air.

Some of the cool points about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part light, making them simple to carry around. In most all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In calm weather, you can do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are the most common of all the other sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to roll off the slanted walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the water pooling on the roof. The most straightforward dome tent should have a rectangular footprint, sloped sides a couple of poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Because of their construction, it is typically considered that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Beneath you can see an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Tungsten UL can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Marmot has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your stuff.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 30D 100% Nylon F/R, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  6. Breathable. The Tungsten's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1200mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  8. Available in other sizes. Marmot has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 51 square feet, the Tungsten 4 is smaller than quite a few of the 134 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 10% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some campers.
  3. No windows. With no windows it is not easy to keep the tent cool on a hot summers night.
  4. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of 30D 100% Nylon F/R but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of things to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.3 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.3 STARS

Marmot's Tungsten 4 UL tent is really good for backpacking. Here are a couple of other cool things not noted above which, we found and liked, while reviewing the model: Rain-Shield Polyester Flysheet Doesn't Stretch and Sag When Wet and Resists Damage from UV, Tuck a headlamp into the lamp shade pocket for ambient light at night. and Strategic Clip Placement Provides Larger Interior Volume.

With good ratings, and a peak height of 4' and 51 square feet of area to sleep, this tent is like your very own modest flat. It will allow you and up to 2 other friends to spend some real quality time in the outdoors together. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can study above.

If you found this page looking for suggestions about this actual tent, we think, it should make for a good buy. If you simply happened to land on this page while browsing for a brand new tent having never heard of this manufacture or this tent model previously, it is probably a good thing to check out some other similar tents.

Value for money: In so much as value for money, this tent is more pricier than the average price of all the one hundred and fifty-four, four-person tents we have studied, this alone by itself is not a negative thing. One should also take into account other areas in detail, as we do for every tent.

When we calculate the overall score of an individual tent, we study plenty of areas, searching for areas where the tent could beat out other near-identical tents and where it is not quite as good. On this occasion, with a total rating of 4.3 and the price statistics above, It is simple to observe that with a price of $499.00 The Tungsten 4 UL is a fair bargain though it may be considered a tiny bit expensive when set side by side with comparable tents.

The overall score shows that the quality and capacity the tent provides make it a very good purchase for campers wanting a tent that will last for many years. It should make a good choice for nearly all campers looking for an adequate three-season backpacking tent to camp with, that will serve you well for years to come.
