Tent Set Up

Easy setup with Color Coded "Easy Pitch" Clips, Poles and Fly

Green Thumbs Up Logo

Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers who purchased the tent said: They much prefer the new green color, to the previous orange color. Ridiculously easy to set up and tear down. No condensation, the tub at the base is sealed tight, not allowing in any water. Moving at a reasonable pace, you can set up this tent by yourself in 5-7 minutes. It has lots of vertical space and a nifty light device. There's decent ventilation with the fly staked out and the vent open.

Teal Thumbs Down Logo

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

People who bought the tent reported: That airflow on a hot summer night with the fly on was not great. Heavier than similar-sized tents. The poles twist and flip in strong winds. It does not come with enough stakes.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Tungsten 2 has two doors and a peak center height of 3' 6, which is a little bit less than the average height of the 204 other 2 person tents we have examined With 32 square feet of space inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, another camper during the whole of the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents like this one generally make a very good choice for people who enjoy spending plenty of time outside their tent getting some air.

Many of the great points about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part light, making them easy to carry around. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are easily the most commonly seen of all the different sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to roll off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the rain pooling on the top of the tent. The simplest dome tent should have a square footprint, slanted walls two or more poles which cross in the center of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is typically thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Down below, you can browse an account of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Tungsten can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Marmot has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 68D Polyester Taffeta 190T F/R, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  6. Includes FootPrint. It is not often we see a footprint included with the tent. It is suggested to always use a footprint, so not having to buy one is a plus.
  7. Breathable. The Tungsten's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  8. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  9. Other sizes are available. Marmot has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great deal for a 2 person dome tent that provides this much room. Not a lot of tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $199.00

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 32 square feet, the Tungsten 2 is smaller than quite a few of the 204 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 9% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some people.
  3. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many things to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

Value for money: In terms of value for money, this tent is a cheaper than the normal cost of all the two hundred and eighty-five, two-person tents we have taken a look at, this alone by itself does not make it good value for money. We also need to take a look at other factors in detail, as we do with each tent.

When we measure the ratings of an individual tent, we examine tons of conditions, searching for points where the tent could excel against other near-identical tents and where it is lacking. On this occasion, with an overall rating of 4.3 and the price info above, we can view that with a ticket price of $199.00 Marmot's Tungsten 2 is a fair deal and fabulously competitively priced in comparison with similar tents.
