Summary: Favorable Reviews

Very comfortable inside. Vestibule provides a good amount of extra space for storing gear. Has pockets and gear lofts to maximise space in the interior. Good value for its price.

Teal Thumbs Down Logo

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Interior is made of mesh. While it provides good airflow for the summer, it may not protect enough against cold air in cooler climates. May not be suitable for winter camping.

The Suma 3 has one door and a peak center height of 4' 2, which is a little bit less than the average height of the 145 other 3 person tents we have studied. With 44 square feet of room inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 3-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, up to two other campers during the whole of the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, smaller tents similar to this one often make a great choice for people who like spending heaps of time outside their tent getting some air.

Many of the fantastic points about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances not too heavy, making them easy to carry. In nearly all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very easy to set up. In good weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most commonly seen of all the various sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in bad weather than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the water pooling on the roof. The most basic dome tent will have a square footprint, slanted walls a couple of poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Because of their construction, it is generally considered that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Beneath you can find a list of the tent's pros and cons.

  1. Freestanding. The Suma can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Offers you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Eureka adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. Breathable. The Suma's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  5. Available in other sizes. Eureka has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  6. Low price. It is a great buy for a 3 person dome tent providing this much room. Not many tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $169.95

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 44 square feet, the Suma 3 is smaller than quite a lot of the 145 other 3 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately specifically for the Suma 3 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 68D 185T Polyester taffeta, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  3. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of attributes to rave about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
