Easy assembly with pole clips that quickly snap over the tent poles

Green Thumbs Up Logo

Summary: Favorable Reviews

The rain flaps go all the way to the ground to keep any rain out. Mesh interior helps us stay cool in summer. Stayed strong through powerful storms. Two months camping and it never leaked.

Teal Thumbs Down Logo

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

The tent did leak a bit until I sealed it myself. Cords in both poles broke after a few uses. Very small vestibule, no windows.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Lynx 3 has two doors and a maximum center height of 4' 0, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 139 different 3 person tents we have examined With 52 square feet of space inside, it is a little bit larger than some other 3-person tents, and it should accommodate you and, up to two other campers throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents like this one generally make a very good choice for campers who appreciate spending heaps of time outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

Many of the fantastic points about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part light, making them simple to carry around. In most all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In good weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are the most common of all the different sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in bad weather than other types, allowing water to roll off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the rain to pool on the top. The simplest dome tent will have a square floor, slanted sides two or more poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is typically considered that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Underneath you can check out an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Lynx can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you a place to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is nice to see Alps Mountaineering adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  6. Breathable. The Lynx's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  8. Other sizes are available. Alps Mountaineering has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  9. Low price. It is a great buy for a 3 person dome tent that provides this much room. Not a lot of tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $147.17 info_outline

CONS

  1. Lacking in Headroom. With 6% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some people.
  2. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately designed for the Lynx 3 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  3. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Lynx 3, looks like a small tent, it is not probably the best choice for backpacking as it weighs 7 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of attributes to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.4 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.4 STARS

Alps Mountaineering's Lynx 3 tent is good for bicycle & motorbike camping. There are a few other things not already mentioned above which, were noticed and liked, while researching the model: Mesh storage pockets, gear loft, 7075 aluminum stakes, and guy ropes included, There are extra-large #8 zippers on the door and vestibule and To be sure no corners are cut, ALPS has the factory seal the fly and floor seams.

With good ratings, a few reviews and a peak height of 4' and 52 square feet of area to sleep, this tent is like your very own miniature flat. It will enable you and up to 2 other people to share some really enjoyable moments exploring the great outdoors. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can look at above.

If you came to this page looking for suggestions about this actual tent, our view is, it will make for an excellent acquisition. In case you simply happened to arrive on this page while looking for a new tent having not heard of this manufacture or this model previously, it is probably a good thing to check out a few other similar tents.

Value for money: In terms of value for money, this tent is without a doubt more competitive than the standard price of all the one hundred and ninety-three, three-person tents we have studied, this alone by itself does not make it remarkable value for money. We also need to take a look at other things in-depth, as we do for each tent.

When we calculate the score of an individual tent, we scrutinize a lot of things, searching for points where the tent could exceed other similar tents and where it is lacking. On this occasion, with an overall rating of 4.4 and the price knowledge above, we can observe that with a ticket price of $147.17 info_outline The Lynx 3 is a good purchase and incredibly competitively priced when compared with comparable tents.

The ratings show that the build and dimensions the tent gives you were not compromised to finish up with a price tag well under the average price for similar tents. It is also worth thinking about the fact that it is marked down by 23% from the manufactures suggested retail price. It should make an excellent choice for nearly all campers looking for a comfortable three-season dome tent to go camping with, that will serve you well for years to come.
