Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers who purchased the tent said: It was the best tent ever. The rain fly with its vestibule worked well in blowing rain and hail, keeping the inside of the tent dry. The set up was easy and quick for one person. The tent is spacious inside. The size to weight ratio of the tent was excellent. For as light as it is, I was expecting something smaller. The dual doors and vestibules were a convenient feature for keeping the tent clutter and dirt free.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

People who bought the tent mentioned: The fly touches the inner tent in strong winds and rain, resulting in condensation. Drips of water were noted at the vent on the leeward side while we were brushed by tropical storm Alberto's rainbands. Poles are not the strongest.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Tungsten 1 UL has one door and a peak center height of 3' 2, which is a tiny bit smaller than the average height of the 68 other 1 person tents we have examined With 20 square feet of room inside, it is a lot smaller than some other 1-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, smaller tents similar to this one often make a great choice for people that like spending heaps of hours outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

Some of the cool things about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances not too heavy, making them easy to carry. In nearly all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most common of all the various sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to roll off the slanted walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the water to pool on the roof. The most basic dome tent will have a square footprint, sloped sides two or more poles which cross in the center of the roof. Because of their construction, it is generally considered that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 people.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Tungsten UL can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Affords you a place to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is nice to see Marmot has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 30D 100% Nylon F/R, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  5. Breathable. The Tungsten's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  6. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1200mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  7. Available in other sizes. Marmot has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 20 square feet, the Tungsten 1 is smaller than quite a lot of the 68 other 1 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 6% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some people.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of 30D 100% Nylon F/R but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of attributes to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.1 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.1 STARS

Marmot's Tungsten 1 UL tent is ideal for backpacking. There are a few other cool things not noted above which, we noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: Rain-Shield Polyester Flysheet Doesn't Stretch and Sag When Wet and Resists Damage from UV, Tuck a headlamp into the lamp shade pocket for ambient light at night. and Strategic Clip Placement Provides Larger Interior Volume.

With great ratings, and a center height of 3' and 20 square feet of space to enjoy, this tent is like your very own miniature studio. It will allow you to spend some real quality moments in the outdoors. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can study above.

If you came to this page looking for recommendations on this actual tent, our view is, it would make for a great purchase. If you just happened to arrive on this page while browsing for a brand new tent having not heard of this brand or this tent before, it is perhaps a good thing to check out some more comparable tents also.

Value for money: When thinking about value for money, this tent is more costly than the average cost of all the one hundred and six, one-person tents we have taken a look at, this itself is not a negative thing. We also need to take into account other things in-depth, as we do for each tent.

When we determine the ratings of a tent, we reflect upon a lot of areas, looking for areas where the tent could outshine other similar tents and where it is not quite as good. In this case, with a total rating of 4.1 and the price data above, It is simple to identify that with a cost of $269.00 Marmot's Tungsten 1 UL is a very good deal although it could be considered a tiny bit pricey when compared with comparable tents.

The ratings show that the build and dimensions the tent offers make it a good choice for those looking for a tent that can last for lots of years. It will make a decent choice for most people looking for a comfy three-season backpacking tent to go camping with, that should serve you well for years to come.
