Summary: Favorable Reviews

A full rainfly covers everything, no leaks during the rain. Two-door access and an exit is a plus. Never had a problem with aluminum poles. Plenty of space for one person and even two dogs.

Teal Thumbs Down Logo

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Take it easy when zipping and unzipping either door. It's slightly vulnerable when you put a lot of force on it. You should also take care of the fabric when setting up or taking down. Giving extra attention to it would avoid any tearing in it.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Lynx 2 has two doors and a maximum center height of 3' 10 which is a little bit less than the average height of the 189 various 2 person tents we have studied. With 37 square feet of space inside, it is a little bit larger than some other 2-person tents, and it should accommodate you and, another camper during the whole of the 3-seasons this tent is approved for. Smaller tents like this one can make a nice choice for people who welcome spending loads of hours outside the tent exploring.

Many of the fantastic things about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking not too heavy, making them simple to carry around. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very simple to set up. In good weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are easily the most common of all the other sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in storms than other types, allowing water to roll off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the rain pooling on the roof. The most straightforward dome tent will have a rectangular footprint, slanted walls a couple of poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Due to their construction, it is usually considered that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Below you can see a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Lynx can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Offers you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is nice to see Alps adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  6. Breathable. The Lynx's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  8. Plenty of Positive Reviews The Lynx 2 has Plenty of fantastic Reviews
  9. Excellent Ratings The Lynx 2 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  10. Other sizes are available. Alps has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  11. Low price. It is a great deal for a 2 person dome tent that provides this much room. Not a lot of tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $106.00 info_outline

CONS

  1. Lacking in Headroom. With 5% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some campers.
  2. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately specifically for the Lynx 2 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  3. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of attributes to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
