Tent Set Up

Easy setup with a freestanding design with aluminum poles, hug-clip and pole-sleeve construction

Summary: Favorable Reviews

People who bought the tent noted: That it held up to heavy rain and strong wind during a storm at 1100ft, without using every guy-out. The vestibules are large, and I put my 70L bag, chair, and boots on one side. The tent not only stood up, but everything stayed dry during rain and later snow. The rain fly does precisely what it is intended to do and allows for enough cross ventilation that almost eliminates any condensation. Setup: Straightforward, the color coated Kelty connect makes the process swift and easy (foolproof). Rained every single afternoon and didn't have a drop of water in it anywhere.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who have used the tent mentioned: That it got a little toasty inside. The tent will take up three-quarters of your pack if you leave it in the included carry bag.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Trail Ridge 4 With Footprint has two doors and a maximum center height of 4' 11, which is a tiny bit smaller than the average height of the 134 other 4 person tents we have examined With 57 square feet of space inside, it is a lot smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, up to three other campers all through the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents like this one can make an excellent choice for campers who like spending loads of time outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

Many of the great things about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part not too heavy, making them easy to carry. In most all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In good weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are the most commonly seen of all the other sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing water to roll off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the rain to pool on the roof. The simplest dome tent should have a rectangular floor, sloped walls two or more poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is usually thought of that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Below you can browse a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Trail Ridge With Footprint can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Offers you a place to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is nice to see Kelty adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Includes FootPrint. It is not often we see a footprint included with the tent. It is suggested to always use a footprint, so not having to buy one is a plus.
  6. Breathable. The Trail Ridge's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1800mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  8. Other sizes are available. Kelty has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  9. Low price. It is a great deal for a 4 person dome tent that provides this much space. Not many tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $289.95

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 57 square feet, the Trail Ridge 4 is smaller than quite a few of the 134 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  2. No windows. With no windows it is not simple to keep the tent ventilated on a hot summers night.
  3. Discontinued: Unfortunately this particular tent has been discontinued on the manufactures site and is no longer available elsewhere, that we are aware of.
  4. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Trail Ridge 4, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 10 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of qualities to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

3.9 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 3.9 STARS

Kelty's Trail Ridge 4 With Footprint tent is really good for bicycle & motorbike camping. Here are a few other points not mentioned above which, were found and liked, while researching the model: Fully seam-taped construction with a vented stargazing fly, 2 doors with 2 vestibules provide easy entrance and storage space for your gear and Comes with a footprint to protect the tent floor.

With ok ratings, quite a lot of reviews and a peak height of 4' and 57 square feet of area to sleep, this tent is like your very own little apartment. This enables you and up to 2 other friends to enjoy some really enjoyable moments in the outdoors together. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can read through above.

If you came to this website looking for an endorsement about this specific tent, we consider, it will make for an ok buy. If you simply happened to land on this page while browsing for a brand new tent having not heard of this manufacurer or this model before, it is perhaps a good thing to check out a few other similar tents also.

Value for money: In terms of value for your dollar, this tent is a more competitive than the usual cost of all the one hundred and fifty-four, four-person tents we have looked at, this alone does not make it awesome value for money. We also need to think about other areas in detail, as we do with each tent.

When we determine the valuation of a single tent, we regard tons of data points, searching for areas where the tent could perform well against other similar tents and where it is coming up short. On this occasion, with a total score of 3.9 and the price info above, It is simple enough to spot that with a cost of $289.95 Kelty's Trail Ridge 4 With Footprint is a fair bargain and fabulously competitively priced when compared with similar tents.

Its overall score shows that the quality and dimensions the tent offers may have been on a small scale compromised to arrive at a price tag unquestionably under the standard price for comparable tents. It could make a decent choice for nearly all campers searching for an appropriate three-season dome tent to camp in, that should serve you well.
