Tent Set Up

Easy setup with a freestanding design with aluminum poles, hug-clip and pole-sleeve construction

Summary: Favorable Reviews

People who bought the tent noted: That it held up to heavy rain and strong wind during a storm at 1100ft, without using every guy-out. The vestibules are large, and I put my 70L bag, chair, and boots on one side. The tent not only stood up, but everything stayed dry during rain and later snow. The rain fly does precisely what it is intended to do and allows for enough cross ventilation that almost eliminates any condensation. Setup: Straightforward, the color coated Kelty connect makes the process swift and easy (foolproof). Rained every single afternoon and didn't have a drop of water in it anywhere.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who have used the tent mentioned: That it got a little toasty inside. The tent will take up three-quarters of your pack if you leave it in the included carry bag.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Trail Ridge 6 With Footprint has two doors and a maximum center height of 6' 2, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 105 other 6 person tents we have examined With 82 square feet of space inside, it is significantly smaller than some other 6-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, up to five other campers during the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents similar to this one are a very nice choice for people who appreciate spending loads of hours outside of their tent exploring.

A few of the fantastic points about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking light, making them easy to carry. In nearly all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In good weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most common of all the various sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in bad weather than other types, allowing water to roll off the slanted walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the rain pooling on the top of the tent. The most straightforward dome tent will have a rectangular floor, sloped sides a couple of poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is typically thought of that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Beneath you can see a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Trail Ridge With Footprint can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is nice to see Kelty adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Includes FootPrint. It is not often we see a footprint included with a tent. It is strongly suggested to always use a footprint, so not having to buy one is a bonus.
  6. Breathable. The Trail Ridge's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1800mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  8. If you are looking for this particular tent, you are in luck it has been discontinued on the manufactures site, but is still available elsewhere.
  9. Plenty of Positive Reviews The Trail Ridge 6 has Plenty of excellent Reviews
  10. Available in other sizes. Kelty has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Sensitive to wind. Because of its size and shape, the Trail Ridge may not do best in strong winds if it is not firmly secured with the provided guy lines and stakes. Even though the tent is listed as freestanding in all but very calm conditions, one would want to stake and tie it down correctly.
  2. Not spacious. With a floor area of 82 square feet, the Trail Ridge 6 is smaller than quite a lot of the 105 other 6 person tents we have looked at.
  3. No windows. With no windows it is not easy to keep the tent ventilated on a hot summers night.
  4. Only one room. The Trail Ridge is suggested for 6 people, many other tents of a similar size have more than one room allowing for a little more privacy.
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of attributes to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.5 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.5 STARS

Kelty's Trail Ridge 6 With Footprint tent is suitable for car camping. There are a few other cool things not mentioned above which, we found and liked, while researching the model: Fully seam-taped construction with a vented stargazing fly, 2 doors with 2 vestibules provide easy entrance and storage space for your gear and Comes with a footprint to protect the tent floor.

With favorable ratings, quite a few reviews and a center height of 6' and 82 square feet of area to sleep, this tent is like your own miniature residence. This will allow you together with 4 other campers to enjoy some real quality time exploring the great outdoors. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can read through above.

If you came to this page looking for suggestions about this actual tent, our view is, it will make for a very good buy. If you simply happened to land on this page while looking for a new tent having not heard of this brand or this tent model before, it is possibly a good thing to look at some other comparable tents also.

Value for money: When thinking about value for your money, this tent is wee bit more competitive than the usual price of all the one hundred and six, six-person tents we have taken a look at, this alone by itself does not make it good value for money. One should also think about other factors in-depth, as we do for each tent.

When we tally up the ratings of an individual tent, we study tons of stuff, searching for points where the tent could shine against other similar tents and where it is not quite as good. In this case, with a total score of 4.5 and the price knowledge above, It is simple to view that with a ticket price of $399.95 The Trail Ridge 6 With Footprint is a very good bargain and cheap in comparison with comparable tents.

The overall score shows that the quality and size the tent provides were not skimped on to arrive at a price tag unquestionably beneath the average price for similar tents. It is also worth noting it is marked down by 0% from the manufactures suggested price. It should make an awesome choice for most campers searching for a comfortable three-season dome tent to go camping with, that will serve you well for years to come.
