Tent Set Up

Summary: Favorable Reviews

People who bought the tent noted: That it held up to heavy rain and strong wind during a storm at 1100ft, without using every guy-out. The vestibules are large, and I put my 70L bag, chair, and boots on one side. The tent not only stood up, but everything stayed dry during rain and later snow. The rain fly does precisely what it is intended to do and allows for enough cross ventilation that almost eliminates any condensation. Setup: Straightforward, the color coated Kelty connect makes the process swift and easy (foolproof). Rained every single afternoon and didn't have a drop of water in it anywhere.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who have used the tent mentioned: That it got a little toasty inside. The tent will take up three-quarters of your pack if you leave it in the included carry bag.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Trail Ridge 3 With Footprint has two doors and a maximum center height of 3' 9, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 139 other 3 person tents we have studied. With 46 square feet of space inside, it is a tiny bit smaller than some other 3-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, up to two other campers all through the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents like this one are a really good choice for campers that enjoy spending loads of hours outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

A few of the fantastic things about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking light, making them easy to carry. In near all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are easily the most common of all the other types of tents you will find when camping. They tend to fair better in bad weather than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the rain pooling on the top of the tent. The most basic dome tent will have a rectangular floor, sloped sides a couple of poles which converge in the center of the roof. Because of their construction, it is typically thought of that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Beneath you can check out a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Trail Ridge With Footprint can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Affords you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Kelty adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Includes FootPrint. It is not often we see a footprint included with the tent. It is suggested to always use a footprint, so not having to buy one is a bonus.
  6. Breathable. The Trail Ridge's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1800mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  8. If you are looking for this particular tent, you are in luck it has been discontinued on the manufactures site, but is still available elsewhere.
  9. Other sizes are available. Kelty has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great deal for a 3 person dome tent providing this much room. Not a lot of tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $269.95

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 46 square feet, the Trail Ridge 3 is smaller than quite a few of the 139 other 3 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 9% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some people.
  3. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of qualities to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.3 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.3 STARS

Kelty's Trail Ridge 3 With Footprint tent is really good for backpacking. Here are a couple of other points not already mentioned above which, we noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: Fully seam-taped construction with a vented stargazing fly, 2 doors with 2 vestibules provide easy entrance and storage space for your gear and Comes with a footprint to protect the tent floor.

With favorable ratings, a couple of reviews and headroom of 3' and 46 square feet of area to sleep, this tent is like your very own miniature apartment. This will allow you to spend some really enjoyable time hanging out with nature. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can look at above.

If you found this website looking for suggestions about this specific tent, our view is, it would make for a good buy. In case you just happened to arrive on this page while browsing for a brand new tent having not heard of this brand or this model previously, it is possibly a good idea to check out a few other similar tents also.

Value for money: In terms of value for your money, this tent is a lot cheaper than the normal price of all the one hundred and ninety-three, three-person tents we have looked at, all alone this does not make it good value for money. We also need to take into account other things in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we tally up the score of an individual tent, we scrutinize a lot of areas, finding points where the tent could outperform other near-identical tents and where it is coming up short. On this occasion, with an overall score of 4.3 and the price details above, It is simple enough to observe that with a ticket price of $269.95 Kelty's Trail Ridge 3 With Footprint is a very good bargain and astonishingly cheap when compared with similar tents.
