Summary: Favorable Reviews

Exceeds its quality to cost ratio. Extremely easy to set, code colored and the materials look steady against wind and rain. The vestibules are huge, allowing you to store your gears and other belongings on the other side and enter on the other side.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

It is very impressive how lightweight this is, but I don't know how much use it can handle, especially the flooring. Talking about the space inside, it can comfortably fit two people but not the gears. However, you can just put your gear, backpacks, shoes, and other stuff in the vestibules.

The Extreme 2 has two windows and two doors and a peak center height of 3' 6 which is a tiny bit less than the average height of the 189 various 2 person tents we have studied. With 35 square feet of room inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it could be a little tight for you and, another camper during the 4-seasons this tent is approved for. Smaller tents similar to this one can make a superb choice for campers that enjoy spending heaps of time outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

Some of the fantastic points about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking not too heavy, making them simple to carry. In near all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very easy to set up. In calm weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most commonly seen of all the other sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in bad weather than other types, allowing water to roll off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the water pooling on the top. The most basic dome tent should have a square floor, sloped sides two or more poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is generally thought of that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Below you can browse an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

  1. Freestanding. The Extreme can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Offers you a place to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Alps adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. More than one window. With 2 windows it is easier to keep the tent cooler on a hot summers night.
  6. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 3000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  7. Breathable. The Extreme's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  8. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  9. Tons of Positive Reviews The Extreme 2 has Lots of fantastic Reviews
  10. Impressive Ratings The Extreme 2 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on
  11. Other sizes are available. Alps has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  12. Low price. It is a great purchase for a 2 person dome tent providing this much room. Not many tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $184.80 info_outline

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 35 square feet, the Extreme 2 is smaller than quite a few of the 189 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 9% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some campers.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately designed for the Extreme 2 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Extreme 2, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 7 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of things to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
  6. Storage Space. Due to the size of the tent, one cannot store a lot of gear inside..
