Summary: Favorable Reviews

True to what it says about being waterproof. Lightweight yet durable. The vestibules give a lot of space on both sides. No need to bring the gears inside the tent. I did not have any problem with setting up and taking it down.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Just don't expect that three adults can fit in this tent unless you can agree that the two sleep inside and the other one on the outside. A footprint might be necessary. The floor is kind of made in a thin material the same as the materials used on the walls.

The Extreme 3 has two windows and two doors and a peak center height of 4' 2 which is a little bit less than the average height of the 126 other 3 person tents we have studied. With 48 square feet of room inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 3-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, up to two other campers during the 4-seasons this tent is recommended for. Smaller tents similar to this one can make a superb choice for people that prefer spending lots of time outside exploring the great outdoors.

Some of the cool things about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part not too heavy, making them easy to carry. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In good weather, you can do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are the most commonly seen of all the other types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the water pooling on the top of the tent. The most basic dome tent should have a square footprint, sloped walls a couple of poles which cross in the center of the roof. Because of their construction, it is generally thought of that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Underneath you can check out an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

  1. Freestanding. The Extreme can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Offers you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Alps adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. More than one window. With 2 openings it is simple to keep the tent ventilated on a hot summers night.
  6. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 3000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  7. Breathable. The Extreme's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  8. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  9. Available in other sizes. Alps has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great buy for a 3 person dome tent providing this much room. Not a lot of tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $220.00 info_outline

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 48 square feet, the Extreme 3 is smaller than quite a few of the 126 other 3 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 5% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some people.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately specifically for the Extreme 3 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. A tad heavy for backpacking. Even though the Extreme 3, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 8 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many qualities to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
  6. Storage Space. because of the size of the tent, one cannot store much stuff inside..
