Summary: Favorable Reviews

People who tried this tent said: Setup only took a couple of minutes. It was also put to the test in severe rain and strong winds, and it passed with flying colors. This one comes with a strong recommendation.

Teal Thumbs Down Logo

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who tried using it said: There is a lot of opportunity for improvement. The setup is straightforward but not for inexperienced users. It'd take a while. A light snowfall would be fine, but a heavy one would not be a good idea.

The Mission 4 has one window and two doors and a peak center height of 4' 2, which is 11 inches smaller than the average height of the 160 different 4 person tents we have studied. With 58 square feet of space inside, it is a lot smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, up to three other campers all through the 4-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents like this one can make a good choice for people who love spending loads of hours outside of their tent exploring.

A few of the fantastic things about tunnel tents are, that they are for, the most part light, making them easy to carry around. In nearly all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the tunnel type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In good weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Tunnel tents are easily the most commonly seen of all the various sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in bad weather than other types, allowing water to roll off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the water pooling on the roof. The most straightforward tunnel tent will have a rectangular footprint, slanted sides a couple of poles which cross in the center of the roof. Because of their construction, it is typically thought of that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 campers. Many tunnel tents contain more than a single room, similar to the Black Diamond Mission two-room tent

Underneath you can check out an account of the tent's pros and cons.

  1. Freestanding. The Mission can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Black Diamond adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one room. The Mission comes with two rooms, allowing for more privacy. Perfect for a large family and groups who do not want to be all sleeping together.
  5. Removable divider. For those who would like to maximize all of the available space that the Mission provides, the divider can be removed to have one large room for everyone to share.
  6. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  7. Other sizes are available. Black Diamond has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 58 square feet, the Mission 4 is smaller than quite a lot of the 161 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 11% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some campers.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of 30d high tenacity polyester but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. Out of Stock. Unfortunately this particular tent is not currently in stock. It is still on the manufactures site the last time we looked.
  5. A tad heavy for backpacking. Even though the Mission 4, looks like a small tent, it is not probably the best choice for backpacking as it weighs 12 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents

Our Ratings: 4.3 STARS

Black Diamond's Mission 4 tent is really good for base camp and expeditions. Here are a few other nice points not already mentioned above which, we noticed and liked, while researching the model: Double wall construction built to handle extreme conditions, Hybrid dome/tunnel design engineered to withstand high winds from all directions and External frameset allows for quick and easy pitch.

With good ratings, and headroom of 4' and 58 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your very own little home away from home. This enables you and up to 2 other campers to enjoy some delightful time camping together. We found more pros than cons about the tent that you can study above.

If you came to this website looking for an endorsement on this particular tent, our view is, it should make for a good purchase. If you just happened to land on this website while browsing for a new tent having never heard of this brand or this tent previously, it is probably a good thing to check out a few more comparable tents also.

Value for money: When contemplating value for money, this tent is significantly more pricey than the usual price point of all the one hundred and sixty, four-person tents we have taken a look at, this just by itself is not a negative thing. We also need to take a look at other areas in-depth, as we do with every tent.

When we calculate the valuation of a single tent, we study plenty of conditions, finding points where the tent could shine against other near-identical tents and where it is not quite as good. On this occasion, with an overall rating of 4.3 and the price statistics above, one can recognize that with a cost of $1199.95 The Mission 4 is a very good deal although it may be thought of as quite pricey when set side by side with comparable tents.

The overall score shows that the quality and capacity the tent offers make it a good purchase for those looking for a tent that will last for plenty of years. It will make an ok choice for most campers searching for a comfy four-season tunnel tent to camp in, that should serve you well for years to come.
