SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Habitude 4 has one window and one door and a peak center height of 6' 1, which is 12 inches bigger than the average height of the 152 other 4 person tents we have studied. With 62 square feet of room inside, it is a tiny bit smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, up to three other campers throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents similar to this one often make a really good choice for campers that appreciate spending lots of hours outside their tent getting some air.

Many of the cool things about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances light, making them easy to carry around. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very easy to set up. In good weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are easily the most commonly seen of all the other sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in bad weather than other types, allowing water to roll off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the water to pool on the top of the tent. The most straightforward dome tent will have a square footprint, sloped walls two or more poles which cross in the center of the roof. Because of their construction, it is usually thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Below you can find a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Habitude can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Plenty of Headroom. With 12% more headroom than similar-sized tents, one can easily count this as a plus.
  3. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Gives you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  4. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see MSR adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 68D taffeta polyester Polyurethane & DWR, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 10000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  6. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  7. Other sizes are available. MSR has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Vulnerable to wind. Because of its size and shape, the Habitude may not do well in strong winds if it is not firmly secured with the provided guy lines and stakes. Even though the tent is listed as freestanding in all but very calm conditions, one would want to stake and tie it down correctly.
  2. Not roomy. With a floor area of 62 square feet, the Habitude 4 is smaller than quite a few of the 153 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of 68D taffeta polyester Polyurethane & DWR but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, more so on rough terrain.
  4. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Habitude 4, looks like a small tent, it is not probably the best choice for backpacking as it weighs 12 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of qualities to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
