Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers who have tried it said: The setup is just simple. It didn't bother me in the least. It was also tested in heavy rain and strong gusts, and it performed flawlessly. This one comes highly recommended.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

According to those who utilized the tent, there is a lot of room for improvement. The setup is simple, but not for novices. It'd take some time. It would survive a little snowfall, but a heavy one would be a no-no.

The Mission 3 has one window and two doors and a peak center height of 3' 10, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 168 various 3 person tents we have studied. With 33 square feet of room inside, it is considerably smaller than some other 3-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you and, up to two other campers during the 4-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents like this one make a great choice for people who welcome spending loads of time outside of their tent exploring.

A few of the fantastic things about tunnel tents are, that they are generally speaking not too heavy, making them simple to carry. In nearly all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the tunnel type. They are usually, freestanding and very simple to set up. In good weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Tunnel tents are without a doubt the most commonly seen of all the various types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in bad weather than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the water to pool on the top. The most basic tunnel tent will have a square footprint, sloped sides a couple of poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Because of their construction, it is typically thought of that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 campers.Lot’s of tunnel tents have more than just one room to stay in, just like the Black Diamond Mission two-room tent

Underneath you can see an account of the tent's pros and cons.

  1. Freestanding. The Mission can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Offers you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Black Diamond adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one room. The Mission comes with two rooms, allowing for extra privacy. Perfect for a large family and groups who do not want to be all sleeping together.
  5. Removable divider. For those who would like to maximize all of the available space that the Mission provides, the divider can be removed to have one large room for everyone to share.
  6. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  7. Available in other sizes. Black Diamond has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 33 square feet, the Mission 3 is smaller than quite a few of the 173 other 3 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 5% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some campers.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of 30d high tenacity polyester but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, more so on rough terrain.
  4. Out of Stock. Unfortunately this particular tent is not currently in stock. It is still on the manufactures site the last time we checked.
  5. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Mission 3, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 10 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents

4.3 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.3 STARS

Black Diamond's Mission 3 tent is ideal for base camp and expeditions. Here are a few other points not noted above which, we noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: Double wall construction built to handle extreme conditions, Hybrid dome/tunnel design engineered to withstand high winds from all directions and External frameset allows for quick and easy pitch.

With positive ratings, and a center height of 3' and 33 square feet of space for sleeping, this tent is like your very own modest apartment. It allows you to spend some really enjoyable moments in the outdoors. We found more positive things than cons about the tent that you can check out above.

If you found this page looking for recommendations on this specific tent, our view is, it will make for a good buy. If you simply happened to land on this page while browsing for a new tent having not heard of this brand or this tent before, it is possibly a good thing to look at a few more comparable tents.

Value for money: In terms of value for money, this tent is without a doubt more costly than the standard cost of all the one hundred and sixty-eight, three-person tents we have looked at, this alone by itself is not a negative thing. One should also take a look at other factors in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we determine the overall score of an individual tent, we regard loads of data points, looking for areas where the tent could exceed other very similar tents and where it is not quite as good. In this case, with an overall rating of 4.3 and the price conclusions above, It is simple enough to recognize that with a price point of $949.95 Black Diamond's Mission 3 is a very good bargain although it could be perceived as quite pricey when set side by side with comparable tents.

Its overall score shows that the quality and space the tent gives you make it a suitable buy for people looking for a tent that can last for plenty of years. It could make a decent choice for most campers looking for a comfortable four-season tunnel tent to camp with, that should serve you well for years to come.
