Tent Set Up

Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers mentioned: That they loved this tent! It was straightforward to set up, and the vestibule is enormous. That they bought this tent for car camping and festival camping, and it's brilliant. One camper's parents borrowed this for a festival as well, and they had no trouble setting it up. It's also very spacious. These pictures do not do it justice. You can comfortably fit a bunch of people on small chairs in the vestibule when closed.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers noted: The dealbreaker for me is that there's no way to get enough ventilation on a hot summer night with the fly and vestibule in place. No rear door, so it gets sweltering in the tent. It's also smaller than it looks online in the pictures. It is of decent quality but not as good as some other tents in the same price range. The tent is also far too large and not adjustable. It is a bit difficult to set up.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Orbit 6 has one door and a maximum center height of 6' 3, which is a tiny bit smaller than the average height of the 107 other 6 person tents we have studied. With 77 square feet of space inside, it is a lot smaller than some other 6-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you and, up to five other campers during the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents like this one generally make a fantastic choice for campers who welcome spending loads of time outside exploring the great outdoors.

A few of the fantastic things about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part lightweight, making them easy to carry around. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very easy to set up. In calm weather, you can do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most common of all the different sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing water to roll off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the water pooling on the top of the tent. The most straightforward dome tent will have a rectangular floor, slanted sides a couple of poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is typically thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Below you can see an account of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Orbit can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Internal storage. It is nice to see Marmot has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your stuff.
  3. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 68D Polyester Taffeta 190T F/R, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  4. Other sizes are available. Marmot has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Susceptible to wind. Because of its size and shape, the Orbit may not do well in strong winds if it is not firmly secured with the provided guy lines and stakes. Even though the tent is listed as freestanding in all but very calm conditions, one would want to stake and tie it down correctly.
  2. Not spacious. With a floor area of 77 square feet, the Orbit 6 is smaller than quite a few of the 107 other 6 person tents we have looked at.
  3. No windows. With no windows it is not easy to keep the tent cool on a hot summers night.
  4. Only one room. The Orbit is recommended for 6 campers, many other tents of a similar size have more than one room allowing for a little more privacy.
  5. No Vestibules. If you want to keep your dirty shoes, clothes, and backpacks protected from the elements, you must store them inside the tent.
  6. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately specifically for the Orbit 6 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 68D Polyester Taffeta 190T F/R, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  7. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of things to rave about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.3 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.3 STARS

Marmot's Orbit 6 tent is good for car camping. Here are a few other nice points not noted above which, were found and liked, while reviewing the model: The Orbit 6P has a gigantic canopy front porch with removable vestibule and awning door, This easy-to-set-up freestanding tent has plenty of interior pockets to organize and store essentials and Lamp Shade Pocket Securely Holds Your Headlamp to Provide Ambient Light.

With favorable ratings, a couple of reviews and a center height of 6' and 77 square feet of space to enjoy, this tent is like your very own small residence. This will enable you and up to 4 other people to share some really enjoyable moments in the outdoors together. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can check out above.

If you found this page looking for recommendations on this particular tent, our view is, it will make for a great purchase. If you simply happened to land on this website while looking for a new tent having never heard of this manufacurer or this tent before, it is probably a good idea to look at a few other similar tents.

Value for money: As far as value for your money, this tent is a more costly than the usual price of all the one hundred and eight, six-person tents we have looked at, this alone is not a negative thing. One should also think about other things in detail, as we do with every tent.

When we tally up the score of a tent, we scrutinize a good deal of data points, looking for points where the tent could exceed other near-identical tents and where it is coming up short. In this case, with a total score of 4.3 and the price info above, one can notice that with a cost of $738 Marmot's Orbit 6 is a fair bargain though it may be perceived as quite expensive when compared with similar tents.

Its overall score shows that the quality and space the tent provides make it a worthy choice for campers wanting a tent that can be used for many years. It is also worth noting it is marked down by 0% from the manufactures MSRP. It will make an ok choice for nearly all people searching for an appropriate three-season dome tent to go camping in, that will serve you well for years to come.
