Tent Set Up

It sets up easily and quickly

Green Thumbs Up Logo

Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers mentioned It stands up to 30-35 mph wind, pouring rain without a single leak. I love the benefit of the light system on the inside. Light, sturdy, sets up, breaks down, and packs quickly and full of great features. I had to set this tent up using mostly moon-light. It was a breeze. One day it dumped buckets of rain, yet the inside stayed warm and dry. Side entry was grand, and the vestibule is roomy, comfortable to access from within the tent, and kept my bags dry during a storm.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Reviews said Zippers are not that tough. I'm 5'9" tall, and the tent is perfect. If I were 6' or taller, I might not be happy in it. If you want the rain fly to be useful, you'll need to be able to stake it out. The only issue I have is the wiring on the light system is messed up, so I have to exchange it for a new one, so be careful with that feature while packing it up.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Rattlesnake 3 SL mtnGLO has two doors and a peak center height of 3' 13, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 139 different 3 person tents we have studied. With 43 square feet of room inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 3-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, up to two other campers throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents like this one generally make a great choice for campers that enjoy spending heaps of time outside their tent getting some air.

Some of the fantastic things about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part not too heavy, making them simple to carry around. In nearly all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very simple to set up. In calm weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are the most common of all the different sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to fair better in storms than other types, allowing water to roll off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the water pooling on the top. The most basic dome tent will have a square footprint, sloped walls two or more poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is generally considered that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Below you can check out a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Rattlesnake SL mtnGLO can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Offers you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Big Agnes has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your gear.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 0mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  6. Other sizes are available. Big Agnes has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 43 square feet, the Rattlesnake 3 is smaller than quite a few of the 139 other 3 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 7% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some people.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of Ripstop nylon but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. Discontinued: Unfortunately this particular tent has been discontinued on the manufactures website and is not available elsewhere, that we know of.
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many attributes to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.2 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.2 STARS

Big Agnes's Rattlesnake 3 SL mtnGLO tent is really good for backpacking. Here are a couple of other cool things not mentioned above which, were found and liked, while researching the model: Winner of Backpacker magazine's 2015 Editors' Choice Award for its built-in LED lighting, The vestibule on both sides is handy for storing a few items and Reflective guylines and webbing on tent corners.

With great ratings, and headroom of 3' and 43 square feet of space for sleeping, this tent is like your very own modest flat. This enables you to spend some real quality time hanging out with nature. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can read through above.

If you came to this page looking for suggestions on this actual tent, we think, it should make for a great acquisition. In case you simply happened to land on this website while browsing for a brand new tent having never heard of this brand or this model before, it is probably a good thing to look at some other comparable tents.

Value for money: In terms of value for money, this tent is little bit cheaper than the standard cost of all the one hundred and ninety-three, three-person tents we have looked at, this alone does not make it good value for money. One should also take into account other areas in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we calculate the valuation of an individual tent, we examine a lot of things, finding areas where the tent could beat other similar tents and where it is lacking. In this case, with an overall rating of 4.2 and the price details above, It is simple to recognize that with a cost of $399.95 The Rattlesnake 3 SL mtnGLO is a decent purchase and reasonably priced in comparison with comparable tents.

Its overall score shows that the quality and size the tent gives you were not skimped on to finish up with a price well below the average price for comparable tents. It is also worth noting it is discounted by 100% from the manufactures MSRP. It will make an awesome choice for most people looking for an appropriate three-season backpacking tent to go camping with, that will serve you well for years to come.
