Tent Set Up

It sets up easily and quickly

Green Thumbs Up Logo

Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers mentioned It stands up to 30-35 mph wind, pouring rain without a single leak. I love the benefit of the light system on the inside. Light, sturdy, sets up, breaks down, and packs quickly and full of great features. I had to set this tent up using mostly moon-light. It was a breeze. One day it dumped buckets of rain, yet the inside stayed warm and dry. Side entry was grand, and the vestibule is roomy, comfortable to access from within the tent, and kept my bags dry during a storm.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Reviews said Zippers are not that tough. I'm 5'9" tall, and the tent is perfect. If I were 6' or taller, I might not be happy in it. If you want the rain fly to be useful, you'll need to be able to stake it out. The only issue I have is the wiring on the light system is messed up, so I have to exchange it for a new one, so be careful with that feature while packing it up.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Rattlesnake 3 SL mtnGLO has two doors and a maximum center height of 3' 13, which is a tiny bit less than the average height of the 139 various 3 person tents we have studied. With 43 square feet of space inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 3-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, up to two other campers during the whole of the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents similar to this one are a good choice for campers that enjoy spending lots of time outside their tent getting some air.

A few of the cool things about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking lightweight, making them simple to carry. In near all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In good weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most commonly seen of all the other sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the rain to pool on the roof. The simplest dome tent should have a square floor, slanted walls a couple of poles which cross in the center of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is generally considered that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 people.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Rattlesnake SL mtnGLO can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you a place to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Big Agnes has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your stuff.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 0mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  6. Other sizes are available. Big Agnes has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 43 square feet, the Rattlesnake 3 is smaller than quite a few of the 139 other 3 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 7% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some campers.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of Ripstop nylon but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. Discontinued: Unfortunately this particular tent has been discontinued on the manufactures site and is no longer available elsewhere, that we are aware of.
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of attributes to rave about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.2 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.2 STARS

Big Agnes's Rattlesnake 3 SL mtnGLO tent is perfect for backpacking. Here are a couple of other points not mentioned above which, were noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: Winner of Backpacker magazine's 2015 Editors' Choice Award for its built-in LED lighting, The vestibule on both sides is handy for storing a few items and Reflective guylines and webbing on tent corners.

With great ratings, and a minimum headroom of 3' and 43 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your own little flat. This will allow you to enjoy some delightful time in the outdoors. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can check out above.

If you came to this website looking for recommendations about this specific tent, our view is, it should make for a great buy. In case you just happened to land on this page while browsing for a brand new tent having never heard of this manufacurer or this tent model before, it is perhaps a good thing to check out some more similar tents.

Value for money: As far as value for your dollar, this tent is tad bit cheaper than the usual cost of all the one hundred and ninety-three, three-person tents we have taken a look at, this itself does not make it good value for money. We also need to think about other factors in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we measure the overall score of a tent, we consider tons of data points, searching for things where the tent could perform well against other comparable tents and where it is not quite as good. In this case, with an overall rating of 4.2 and the price data above, we can view that with a ticket price of $399.95 Big Agnes's Rattlesnake 3 SL mtnGLO is a fair deal and cheap when compared with similar tents.

The ratings show that the quality and dimensions the tent offers were not compromised to obtain a price significantly under the standard price for comparable tents. It could make a fantastic choice for most people looking for an appropriate three-season backpacking tent to go camping in, that will serve you well for years to come.
