Tent Set Up

It sets up easily and quickly

Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers mentioned It stands up to 30-35 mph wind, pouring rain without a single leak. I love the benefit of the light system on the inside. Light, sturdy, sets up, breaks down, and packs quickly and full of great features. I had to set this tent up using mostly moon-light. It was a breeze. One day it dumped buckets of rain, yet the inside stayed warm and dry. Side entry was grand, and the vestibule is roomy, comfortable to access from within the tent, and kept my bags dry during a storm.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Reviews said Zippers are not that tough. I'm 5'9" tall, and the tent is perfect. If I were 6' or taller, I might not be happy in it. If you want the rain fly to be useful, you'll need to be able to stake it out. The only issue I have is the wiring on the light system is messed up, so I have to exchange it for a new one, so be careful with that feature while packing it up.

The Rattlesnake 4 SL mtnGLO has two doors and a peak center height of 4' 3, which is 13 inches less than the average height of the 131 various 4 person tents we have examined With 57 square feet of space inside, it is significantly smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, up to three other campers throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, smaller tents similar to this one often make an excellent choice for campers who welcome spending plenty of time outside of their tent exploring.

A few of the fantastic things about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part not too heavy, making them easy to carry around. In near all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In good weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most common of all the other types of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the rain to pool on the top of the tent. The simplest dome tent will have a rectangular footprint, slanted walls a couple of poles which converge in the center of the roof. Due to their construction, it is usually thought of that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Underneath you can find an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

  1. Freestanding. The Rattlesnake SL mtnGLO can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Affords you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is nice to see Big Agnes has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 0mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  6. If you are searching for this actual tent, you are in luck it has been discontinued on the manufactures site, but is still available elsewhere.
  7. Other sizes are available. Big Agnes has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 57 square feet, the Rattlesnake 4 is smaller than quite a few of the 131 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 13% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some people.
  3. No windows. With no windows it is not easy to keep the tent cool on a hot summers night.
  4. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of Ripstop nylon but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, more so on rough terrain.
  5. A tad heavy for backpacking. Even though the Rattlesnake 4, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 7 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  6. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many qualities to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
