Summary: Favorable Reviews

It is easy to set up and has plenty of room for a couple and a dog. It also survived through a few summer storms without a single leak. It is our second Big Agnes tent, and we are very satisfied.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

For me, it's not compatible with four adult persons. Maybe, for four young teenagers, this would be lovely, they would be able to fit inside better.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Flying Diamond 4 has two doors and a maximum center height of 5' 0, which is a tiny bit less than the average height of the 130 various 4 person tents we have studied. With 61 square feet of space inside, it is a tiny bit smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it could be a little tight for you and, up to three other campers during the whole of the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents similar to this one often make a great choice for people who prefer spending loads of time outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

Some of the fantastic points about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part lightweight, making them simple to carry. In nearly all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In calm weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most common of all the other types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in bad weather than other types, allowing rain to roll off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the rain to pool on the top. The most basic dome tent will have a square floor, sloped walls a couple of poles which converge in the center of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is typically considered that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Beneath you can see an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Flying Diamond can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Affords you a place to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is nice to see Big Agnes has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  6. Available in other sizes. Big Agnes has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 61 square feet, the Flying Diamond 4 is smaller than quite a few of the 130 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  2. No windows. With no windows it is not simple to keep the tent cool on a hot summers night.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately designed for the Flying Diamond 4 footprint Even though the floor may be made of Coated polyester, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. Out of Stock. Unfortunately this particular tent is not currently in stock. It is still on the manufactures site the last time we looked.
  5. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Flying Diamond 4, looks like a small tent, it is not probably the best choice for backpacking as it weighs 14 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  6. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of attributes to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.8 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.8 STARS

Big Agnes's Flying Diamond 4 tent is great for car camping. There are a couple of other nice points not already mentioned above which, were noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: Spacious and strong tents for 3+ season base camping, Ready to pitch; with pre-cut guy lines and tensioners attached to fly and The Flying Diamond series of shelters are much more than standard tents. They are Everest base camp dining rooms.

With favorable ratings, a decent amount of reviews and a minimum headroom of 5' and 61 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your very own modest flat. This will allow you and up to 2 other people to enjoy some delightful moments enjoying nature. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can check out above.

In case you just happened to arrive on this page while looking for a brand new tent having not heard of this brand or this tent model before, it is probably a good idea to check out a few other similar tents.

Value for money: When considering value for your dollar, this tent is a little bit more expensive than the standard price of all the one hundred and fifty-one, four-person tents we have looked at, all alone this is not a negative thing. We also need to take into account other factors in detail, as we do for every tent.

When we tally up the ratings of a single tent, we consider a lot of things, searching for points where the tent could exceed other similar tents and where it is coming up short. On this occasion, with an overall score of 4.3 and the price info above, we can notice that with a cost of $499.95 info_outline Big Agnes's Flying Diamond 4 is a good bargain although it may be perceived as quite pricey when set side by side with comparable tents.

The ratings show that the build and size the tent gives you make it a fair choice for those wanting a tent that will be used for plenty of years. It is also worth noting it is reduced by 0% from the manufactures suggested price. It should make a good choice for nearly all people searching for an adequate three-season dome tent to go camping in, that should serve you well for years to come.
