Summary: Favorable Reviews

The tent is much larger than expected. Aside from my sleeping bag and hiking stuff, there is still enough room for other things. It even survived in windy and rainy conditions after days of using it.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

It is not best for those who are tall like about 6 feet tall. You might have a hard time, especially when you occupy it with four persons. About the rainfly, for me, it is poorly designed, but it can be better. Just the placement of the zippers and it's all good. Overall, not a bad tent for its price.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Lynx 4 has two doors and a peak center height of 4' 4 which is 12 inches smaller than the average height of the 129 other 4 person tents we have looked at. With 64 square feet of room inside, it is a tiny bit smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it could be a little tight for you and, up to three other campers during the whole of the 3-seasons this tent is approved for. Smaller tents like this one often can make a very good choice for campers who prefer spending plenty of time outside exploring the great outdoors.

A few of the cool points about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking not too heavy, making them easy to carry around. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very easy to set up. In calm weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are easily the most common of all the different sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to fair better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the water pooling on the top of the tent. The simplest dome tent should have a rectangular footprint, sloped walls two or more poles which converge in the center of the roof. Because of their construction, it is typically considered that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Beneath you can find a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Lynx can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Offers you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is nice to see Alps adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  6. Breathable. The Lynx's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  8. Plenty of Positive Reviews The Lynx 4 has Plenty of fantastic Reviews
  9. Awesome Ratings The Lynx 4 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  10. Available in other sizes. Alps has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  11. Low price. It is a great buy for a 4 person dome tent providing this much space. Not a lot of tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $158.18 info_outline

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 64 square feet, the Lynx 4 is smaller than quite a few of the 129 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 12% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some people.
  3. No windows. With no windows it is not easy to keep the tent ventilated on a hot summers night.
  4. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately designed for the Lynx 4 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  5. A tad heavy for backpacking. Even though the Lynx 4, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 8 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  6. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of things to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
  7. Storage Space. because of the size of the tent, one cannot store much gear inside..
