Summary: Favorable Reviews

In about 2 minutes, you can set up and take this down without having any hassle. Lightweight yet roomy. You can move comfortably in any position that you wanted. The ventilation is pretty good also. It comes almost to the ground to protect against wind or even rain.

Teal Thumbs Down Logo

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

During rain, a footprint is needed. It might not come through, but moisture might come through the floor. The stakes are pretty decent. However, you might get some heavier duty stakes if you're going to use this in extreme conditions like high winds.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Lynx 1 has one door and a maximum center height of 3' 0, which is a tiny bit less than the average height of the 68 other 1 person tents we have examined With 20 square feet of room inside, it is significantly smaller than some other 1-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you during the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents similar to this one generally make a superb choice for campers who appreciate spending heaps of time outside exploring the great outdoors.

A few of the cool points about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances light, making them simple to carry around. In most all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very easy to set up. In calm weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most commonly seen of all the different types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in storms than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the rain pooling on the top of the tent. The most basic dome tent will have a rectangular footprint, sloped sides two or more poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is generally thought of that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Beneath you can check out a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Lynx can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Alps Mountaineering adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  5. Breathable. The Lynx's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  6. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  7. Tons of Positive Reviews The Lynx 1 has Lots of great Reviews
  8. Impressive Ratings The Lynx 1 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  9. Other sizes are available. Alps Mountaineering has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great buy for a 1 person dome tent that provides this much room. Not a lot of tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $90.75 info_outline

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 20 square feet, the Lynx 1 is smaller than quite a few of the 68 other 1 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 8% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some campers.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately designed for the Lynx 1 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of attributes to rave about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

5 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 5.0 STARS

Alps Mountaineering's Lynx 1 tent is suitable for backpacking. There are a few other things not already mentioned above which, were found and liked, while researching the model: Mesh storage pockets, gear loft, 7075 aluminum stakes, and guy ropes included, There are extra-large #8 zippers on the door and vestibule and To be sure no corners are cut, ALPS has the factory seal the fly and floor seams.

With exceptional ratings, lots of reviews and headroom of 3' and 20 square feet of space to enjoy, this tent is like your very own miniature home away from home. It enables you to enjoy some real quality time exploring the great outdoors. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can look at above.

If you came to this page looking for recommendations about this specific tent, our view is, it would make for an excellent acquisition. If you simply happened to arrive on this page while looking for a brand new tent having not heard of this brand or this tent model previously, it is perhaps a good thing to look at a few more comparable tents also.

Value for money: When thinking about value for your money, this tent is significantly cheaper than the normal cost of all the one hundred and six, one-person tents we have studied, this alone by itself does not make it good value for money. One should also take into account other things in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we calculate the ratings of an individual tent, we reflect upon tons of data points, looking for points where the tent could beat other similar tents and where it is lacking. On this occasion, with a total score of 5.0 and the price knowledge above, we can notice that with a price of $90.75 info_outline The Lynx 1 is a fantastic bargain and incredibly competitively priced when compared with similar tents.

Its overall score shows that the build and dimensions the tent gives you were not in any way compromised to get a price tag significantly below the standard price for comparable tents. It is also worth noting it is marked down by 24% from the manufactures suggested retail price. It could make a fantastic choice for nearly all campers looking for an adequate three-season backpacking tent to camp in, that should serve you well for years to come.
