Summary: Favorable Reviews

People who purchased the tent noted: It rained heavily 2 of the four days, and the tent held up perfectly, not a drop got through to the inside. The quality of the materials is superb, and it looks like it could hold its own against mild inclement weather. Great for night star gazing. Plenty of room in the storage bag - so you don't have to get it factory packed to fit it back in the bag. The vestibule was great for holding our muddy shoes and kept our tent cleaner.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who bought the tent mentioned: It is too heavy to carry in a pack. They wished it came with more cordage to tie out the rain fly. It feels like the tent needs another door or window.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Outback 2 has one door and a peak center height of 3' 5, which is a little bit less than the average height of the 211 different 2 person tents we have studied. With 30 square feet of room inside, it is a lot smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you and, another camper during the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, smaller tents similar to this one make a really nice choice for campers that love spending lots of time outside exploring the great outdoors.

A few of the great things about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances not too heavy, making them easy to carry around. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very easy to set up. In good weather, you can do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are the most common of all the different sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the rain to pool on the roof. The most basic dome tent should have a rectangular footprint, slanted sides a couple of poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Because of their construction, it is usually considered that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Down below, you can see an account of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Outback can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is nice to see Kelty has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your gear.
  4. Breathable. The Outback's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  5. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1800mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  6. Lots of Positive Reviews The Outback 2 has Plenty of very good Reviews
  7. Impressive Ratings The Outback 2 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  8. Available in other sizes. Kelty has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  9. Low price. It is a great buy for a 2 person dome tent that provides this much space. Not many tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $99.95

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 30 square feet, the Outback 2 is smaller than quite a few of the 211 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 10% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some campers.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately specifically for the Outback 2 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 68D Polyester, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of qualities to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.7 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.7 STARS

Kelty's Outback 2 tent is perfect for backpacking. There are a couple of other points not mentioned above which, were noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: The easy-to-use attached guylines help stabilize the tent in windy conditions, Optimum comfort at an affordable price point, that's the Outback and Vestibule with two stake points and guyout storage pockets.

With very good ratings, lots of reviews and a minimum headroom of 3' and 30 square feet of space for sleeping, this tent is like your very own miniature studio. This will enable you to enjoy some really enjoyable moments exploring the great outdoors. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can look at above.

If you found this website looking for recommendations on this specific tent, our view is, it should make for an awesome acquisition. If you simply happened to arrive on this website while looking for a brand new tent having never heard of this manufacurer or this model before, it is probably a good idea to check out a few more similar tents also.

Value for money: When considering value for money, this tent is undoubtedly cheaper than the average price of all the two hundred and ninety-two, two-person tents we have looked at, this alone by itself does not make it remarkable value for money. One should also think about other things in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we determine the score of a tent, we examine a lot of stuff, searching for points where the tent could beat out other comparable tents and where it is coming up short. In this case, with an overall rating of 4.7 and the price conclusions above, one can observe that with a cost of $99.95 Kelty's Outback 2 is a remarkable purchase and astonishingly cheap in comparison with comparable tents.

Its overall score shows that the quality and space the tent offers were not in any way compromised to finish up with a price well under the normal price for comparable tents. It is also worth noting it is discounted by 0% from the manufactures MSRP. It could make a fantastic choice for most people looking for a comfy three-season backpacking tent to go camping with, that should serve you well for years to come.
