Tent Set Up

Easy Color Coded Setup

Green Thumbs Up Logo

Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers who have used the tent mentioned: They were happy with the easy setup and durable construction. Color-matched clips and such may not be necessary for such a small tent but are a nice touch to make it that much easier. It has performed well in the rain and stayed dry in the fiercest of storms and wind. One thing that stood out with the Salida is the attachments that go from the tent to the poles that hold it up. I liked how they twist on, so if the tent is bumped or blows in the wind, etc. , there is no chance of the tent detaching from the poles.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

People who bought the tent noted: That the rain fly door does not open high enough to get in and out of the tent without either kneeling on the ground or rubbing the roof with your back. Some of the lines are a little short to tie around heavy enough rocks. Quite heavy. One door can be a bit of pain with more than one person.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Salida 2 has one door and a peak center height of 3' 7, which is a tiny bit smaller than the average height of the 211 various 2 person tents we have examined With 31 square feet of room inside, it is significantly smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you and, another camper all through the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents like this one make a very nice choice for people who like spending heaps of time outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

Some of the cool things about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part lightweight, making them easy to carry. In most all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In good weather, you can do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are easily the most common of all the other sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the slanted walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the water to pool on the top of the tent. The simplest dome tent will have a square footprint, sloped sides a couple of poles which cross in the center of the roof. Due to their construction, it is generally considered that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Below you can check out an account of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Salida can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Gives you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Kelty has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. Breathable. The Salida's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  5. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1800mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  6. If you are looking for this actual tent, you are in luck it has been discontinued on the manufactures site, but is still available elsewhere.
  7. Lots of Positive Reviews The Salida 2 has Tons of great Reviews
  8. Impressive Ratings The Salida 2 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  9. Other sizes are available. Kelty has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great purchase for a 2 person dome tent providing this much room. Not many tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $149.95

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 31 square feet, the Salida 2 is smaller than quite a few of the 211 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 8% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some campers.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately designed for the Salida 2 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 68D Nylon, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of qualities to rave about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
