SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Mountain Pass 3 has two doors and a peak center height of 3' 8, which is a tiny bit less than the average height of the 145 other 3 person tents we have examined With 45 square feet of room inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 3-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, up to two other campers during the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, smaller tents similar to this one often can make an ideal choice for campers who like spending lots of time outside exploring the great outdoors.

Some of the great things about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances lightweight, making them easy to carry around. In near all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most commonly seen of all the other sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to fair better in bad weather than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the rain to pool on the top of the tent. The most basic dome tent will have a rectangular floor, sloped walls two or more poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is generally thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Down below, you can find a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Mountain Pass can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Affords you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is nice to see Eureka has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your gear.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 68D 185T Polyester taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 3000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  6. Includes FootPrint. It is not often we see a footprint included with the tent. It is suggested to always use a footprint, so not having to pay extra for one is a plus.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1800mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  8. Excellent Ratings The Mountain Pass 3 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  9. Available in other sizes. Eureka has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great buy for a 3 person dome tent providing this much room. Not many tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $335.97

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 45 square feet, the Mountain Pass 3 is smaller than quite a few of the 145 other 3 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 10% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some people.
  3. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Mountain Pass 3, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 9 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of qualities to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

5 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 5.0 STARS

Eureka's Mountain Pass 3 tent is perfect for bicycle & motorbike camping. Here are a couple of other cool things not noted above which, we noticed and liked, while researching the model: High/Low Air Exchange Venting, Built for heavy weather but made of lightweight materials and Highly breathable, lightweight canopy and zippered, removable side panels.

With fantastic ratings, a few reviews and a center height of 3' and 45 square feet of area to sleep, this tent is like your very own small home away from home. It allows you to enjoy some real quality moments hanging out with nature. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can look at above.

If you came to this page looking for recommendations on this particular tent, our view is, it will make for an excellent acquisition. In case you just happened to land on this website while browsing for a new tent having not heard of this manufacurer or this tent model previously, it is possibly a good thing to look at a few more similar tents.

Value for money: In terms of value for your dollar, this tent is more competitive than the usual cost of all the one hundred and ninety-four, three-person tents we have studied, this just by itself does not make it great value for money. One should also look at other factors in detail, as we do for every tent.

When we determine the valuation of a single tent, we scrutinize tons of stuff, looking for points where the tent could beat out other comparable tents and where it is not quite as good. On this occasion, with a total score of 5.0 and the price info above, we can see that with a price of $335.97 Eureka's Mountain Pass 3 is a perfect buy and reasonably priced in comparison with similar tents.

The ratings show that the quality and capacity the tent provides were not in any way skimped on to arrive at a price tag well beneath the usual price for similar tents. It should make a very good choice for most people searching for a comfortable three-season dome tent to go camping in, that should serve you well for years to come.
