SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Mountain Pass 2 has two doors and a maximum center height of 3' 5, which is a tiny bit smaller than the average height of the 220 various 2 person tents we have studied. With 32 square feet of room inside, it is a tiny bit smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it could be a little tight for you and, another camper throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents like this one make a very nice choice for people that enjoy spending plenty of time outside of their tent exploring.

A few of the great points about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part lightweight, making them easy to carry. In most all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very easy to set up. In calm weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most commonly seen of all the different types of tents you will find when camping. They tend to fair better in bad weather than other types, allowing water to roll off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the water to pool on the top. The simplest dome tent should have a square footprint, slanted walls a couple of poles which converge in the center of the roof. Due to their construction, it is usually considered that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Beneath you can find a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Mountain Pass can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is nice to see Eureka has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your gear.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 68D 185T Polyester taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 3000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  6. Includes FootPrint. It is quite rare to see a footprint included with a tent. It is strongly suggested to always use a footprint, so not having to pay extra for one is a plus.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1800mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  8. Excellent Ratings The Mountain Pass 2 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  9. Available in other sizes. Eureka has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great buy for a 2 person dome tent providing this much space. Not a lot of tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $279.97

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 32 square feet, the Mountain Pass 2 is smaller than quite a lot of the 220 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 9% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some people.
  3. A tad heavy for backpacking. Even though the Mountain Pass 2, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 7 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many attributes to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

Our Ratings: 5.0 STARS

Eureka's Mountain Pass 2 tent is great for backpacking. There are a few other nice points not noted above which, were noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: High/Low Air Exchange Venting, Built for heavy weather but made of lightweight materials and Highly breathable, lightweight canopy and zippered, removable side panels.

With very good ratings, a decent amount of reviews and headroom of 3' and 32 square feet of space to enjoy, this tent is like your very own modest studio. It will allow you to enjoy some real quality moments exploring the great outdoors. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can check out above.

If you found this page looking for recommendations about this particular tent, our view is, it should make for a very good purchase. In case you just happened to arrive on this website while looking for a brand new tent having never heard of this brand or this tent model previously, it is perhaps a good idea to look at some more similar tents.

Value for money: As far as value for your dollar, this tent is more competitive than the normal cost of all the two hundred and eighty-seven, two-person tents we have taken a look at, this itself does not make it good value for money. One should also take a look at other things in-depth, as we do for each tent.

When we calculate the score of a single tent, we examine plenty of stuff, finding things where the tent could shine against other near-identical tents and where it is coming up short. On this occasion, with an overall score of 5.0 and the price details above, It is simple to see that with a cost of $279.97 Eureka's Mountain Pass 2 is an excellent deal and reasonably priced in comparison with comparable tents.

The overall score shows that the quality and dimensions the tent provides were not in any way compromised to obtain a price tag well under the average price for similar tents. It could make a remarkable choice for most campers looking for a comfy three-season dome tent to camp with, that will serve you well for years to come.
