Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers who utilized the tent stated: They liked how high-quality materials were employed. It stood up against minimal winds, something I had not anticipated. The entrance is also quite large for a one-person tent, making getting in and out a breeze.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

People who bought the tent said: it's not a smart idea to bring it in the winter, especially when there's a lot of snow. The setup is just not good for first timers, but if you're already an expert, I don't see why not.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The HiLight 1 has one window and one door and a maximum center height of 3' 1, which is a tiny bit smaller than the average height of the 82 various 1 person tents we have studied. With 20 square feet of room inside, it is considerably smaller than some other 1-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you throughout the 4-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents like this one can make an ideal choice for campers who welcome spending loads of time outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

Many of the cool things about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances light, making them easy to carry around. In nearly all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very simple to set up. In calm weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are easily the most commonly seen of all the different sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in bad weather than other types, allowing water to roll off the slanted walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the rain to pool on the roof. The most straightforward dome tent should have a square footprint, slanted sides two or more poles which converge in the center of the roof. Because of their construction, it is generally considered that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Beneath you can find an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The HiLight can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Offers you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Black Diamond adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. Other sizes are available. Black Diamond has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 20 square feet, the HiLight 1 is smaller than quite a few of the 83 other 1 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of Silicone-coated nylon ripstop but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, more so on rough terrain.
  3. Discontinued: Unfortunately this particular tent has been discontinued on the manufactures site and is no longer available elsewhere, that we know of.
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many qualities to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

Black Diamond's HiLight 1 tent is suitable for mountaineering and backpacking. Here are a few other nice points not mentioned above which, were noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: Flow Manifold allows interior heat convection and exterior airflow, High tenacity 30D poly fabric improves strength and doesn’t stretch when wet and Complies to FR regulation CPAI-84.

With positive ratings, and a minimum headroom of 3' and 20 square feet of space to enjoy, this tent is like your own little studio. This enables you to enjoy some really enjoyable time in the outdoors. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can look at above.

In case you just happened to arrive on this page while looking for a brand new tent having never heard of this manufacture or this model previously, it is probably a good idea to check out some other similar tents also.

Value for money: In terms of value for your money, this tent is right around the average price of all the eighty-two, one-person tents we have taken a look at, this itself does not make it good value for money. We also need to think about other areas in-depth, as we do for every tent.

When we calculate the ratings of a tent, we reflect upon plenty of stuff, searching for things where the tent could beat out other similar tents and where it is coming up short. In this case, with a total score of 4.1 and the price data above, one can conclude that with a price of $359.95 Black Diamond's HiLight 1 is a very good buy the price is not overpriced when compared with similar tents.

Its overall score shows that the quality and dimensions, the tent provides make it a a very good purchasefor campers wanting for a good quality 1-person tent.
