Fast setup with a lightweight aluminum pole system with press fit connectors.
Excellent quality of materials used. No doubt Big Agnes put a lot of effort into this. Thumbs up to the creators.
It is not a tent for strong wind and heavy rain. The poles may break if you are not careful. Other than that, it is all good.
The Blacktail 2 has two doors and a peak center height of 3' 6 which is a tiny bit less than the average height of the 189 different 2 person tents we have studied. With 29 square feet of space inside, it is significantly smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, another camper throughout the 3-seasons this tent is approved for. Many of the cool things about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances not too heavy, making them easy to carry. In nearly all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In good weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.
Dome tents are easily the most common of all the different types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in bad weather than other types, allowing water to roll off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the water pooling on the top of the tent. The most basic dome tent should have a square floor, slanted sides two or more poles which cross in the center of the roof. Due to their construction, it is usually considered that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 campers.
