Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers said: The tent's interior space provides plenty of room for two people and their gear which allows for comfortable sitting and sleeping. It also comes with a simple, freestanding design, and the poles are color-coded to make setup quick and easy. Also, it offers great value for budget-conscious campers and hikers.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Some users of this tent said: The tent's materials are thin and not strong enough for use in inclement weather. Heavy rain may not be enough protection for the rainfly, and the zippers may quickly fail or stop working. The tent is very challenging to setup, especially in windy circumstances. Yet, it is stilla solid andaffordable option for backpacking and camping

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Helix 2 has two doors and a maximum center height of 3' 5, which is a tiny bit smaller than the average height of the 243 various 2 person tents we have studied. With 32 square feet of room inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it could be a little tight for you and, another camper throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents like this one can make a fantastic choice for campers that welcome spending loads of time outside exploring the great outdoors.

Some of the great points about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking not too heavy, making them simple to carry. In near all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very simple to set up. In calm weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most commonly seen of all the other sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing water to roll off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the rain to pool on the roof. The simplest dome tent will have a square footprint, slanted walls a couple of poles which cross in the center of the roof. Due to their construction, it is typically thought of that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 people.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Helix can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Offers you a place to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Alps Mountaineering adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 20D 380T nylon ripstop, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  6. Breathable. The Helix's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 2000mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  8. Tons of Positive Reviews The Helix 2 has Plenty of great Reviews
  9. Fantastic Ratings The Helix 2 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  10. Available in other sizes. Alps Mountaineering has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  11. Low price. It is a great purchase for a 2 person dome tent that provides this much room. Not many tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $249.99

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 32 square feet, the Helix 2 is smaller than quite a lot of the 254 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 8% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some people.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately specifically for the Helix 2 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 20D 380T nylon ripstop, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of attributes to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

If you just happened to arrive on this website while browsing for a brand new tent having not heard of this manufacture or this model before, it is perhaps a good idea to look at a few other similar tents.

Value for money: In terms of value for money, this tent is undoubtedly more competitive than the average cost of all the two hundred and fourty-three, two-person tents we have taken a look at, this alone does not make it good value for money. One should also think about other areas in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we measure the valuation of a single tent, we reflect upon tons of data points, finding things where the tent could beat out other near-identical tents and where it is not quite as good. On this occasion, with an overall score of 4.7 and the price details above, It is simple enough to identify that with a price point of $249.99 Alps Mountaineering's Helix 2 is an exceptional deal and incredibly cheap in comparison with similar tents.
