Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers said: Great value. The tent is extremely compact and lightweight when packed. With color-coordinated poles, setup is carefully planned. Being over six feet tall, I easily fit in there. Even had space for a small amount of equipment. The vestibule is large enough to accommodate my pack and boots.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

People who used it said: Given that it is an ultralight tent, the fabric is pretty thin, and I can understand how a few branches or pebbles could cause some harm to it. I could not also recommend this during extreme cold, rain, or windy situations. Overall, its a decent one.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Helix 1 has one door and a maximum center height of 3' 1, which is a little bit less than the average height of the 84 other 1 person tents we have studied. With 20 square feet of room inside, it is a lot smaller than some other 1-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents like this one can generally make a great choice for people that enjoy spending plenty of hours outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

Many of the fantastic things about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances light, making them simple to carry. In most all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very easy to set up. In good weather, you can do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are the most common of all the different sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to fair better in storms than other types, allowing water to roll off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the rain pooling on the top. The most straightforward dome tent will have a rectangular floor, sloped sides a couple of poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is typically considered that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Below you can browse a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Helix can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is nice to see Alps Mountaineering adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 20D 380T nylon ripstop, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  5. Breathable. The Helix's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  6. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 2000mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  7. Lots of Positive Reviews The Helix 1 has Tons of very good Reviews
  8. Remarkable Ratings The Helix 1 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  9. Other sizes are available. Alps Mountaineering has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great deal for a 1 person dome tent that provides this much room. Not many tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $219.99

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 20 square feet, the Helix 1 is smaller than quite a lot of the 85 other 1 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately designed for the Helix 1 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 20D 380T nylon ripstop, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  3. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of things to rave about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION
