Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers who purchased the tent said: It is so light and roomy. Easily withstood some heavy rain and winds, without leaks. Both sizes comfortably accommodated 2 adults and a dog. Stays warm with the fly. Easy to put together and how light/small it packs down.

The Bolt Ultralight 3 has one door and a peak center height of 3' 7, which is 11 inches smaller than the average height of the 139 different 3 person tents we have studied. With 38 square feet of space inside, it is a lot smaller than some other 3-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, up to two other campers all through the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents like this one are a nice choice for campers who love spending heaps of hours outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

A few of the great points about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking light, making them easy to carry. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In calm weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most commonly seen of all the other sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to roll off the sloped sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the water pooling on the top. The simplest dome tent will have a rectangular footprint, slanted sides a couple of poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is usually thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Beneath you can see a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

  1. Freestanding. The Bolt Ultralight can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Offers you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Marmot has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your gear.
  4. Includes FootPrint. It is quite rare to see a footprint included with the tent. It is suggested to always use a footprint, so not having to buy one is a plus.
  5. Breathable. The Bolt Ultralight's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  6. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  7. Other sizes are available. Marmot has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 38 square feet, the Bolt Ultralight 3 is smaller than quite a few of the 139 other 3 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 11% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some people.
  3. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of qualities to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

Our Ratings: 4.4 STARS

Marmot's Bolt Ultralight 3 tent is good for backpacking. Here are a couple of other things not already mentioned above which, we noticed and liked, while researching the model: Rain-Shield Polyester Flysheet Doesn't Stretch and Sag When Wet and Resists Damage from UV, Zone Pre-Bend Construction Creates Vertical Walls, More Roomy Sleeping Area and Greater Head Room and Lamp Shade Pocket Securely Holds Your Headlamp to Provide Ambient Light.

With positive ratings, and a peak height of 3' and 38 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your very own modest flat. This enables you to enjoy some really enjoyable moments in the outdoors. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can look at above.

If you found this page looking for an endorsement on this actual tent, our view is, it should make for a great acquisition. If you simply happened to land on this website while browsing for a new tent having never heard of this manufacurer or this tent model previously, it is perhaps a good thing to look at a few other similar tents also.

Value for money: When contemplating value for your dollar, this tent is more pricier than the average cost of all the one hundred and ninety-three, three-person tents we have looked at, all alone this is not a negative thing. We also need to look at other areas in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we measure the valuation of a single tent, we study tons of things, looking for things where the tent could beat out other comparable tents and where it is not quite as good. On this occasion, with an overall score of 4.4 and the price info above, we can notice that with a price of $489 Marmot's Bolt Ultralight 3 is a decent buy even though it may be thought of as quite costly when set side by side with similar tents.

The ratings show that the quality and size the tent gives you make it a fair choice for people wanting a tent that can last for plenty of years. It will make an ok choice for most people searching for a comfortable three-season backpacking tent to go camping with, that should serve you well for years to come.
