Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who bought the tent said that: There are leaks in the edges. The inside can get wet whenever it rains. Requires additional application of waterproofing by the user in most cases.

The Evanston 8 has one window and one door and a peak center height of 6' 2, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 62 various 8 person tents we have examined With 144 square feet of room inside, it is a little bit larger than some other 8-person tents, and it should accommodate you and, up to seven other campers during the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, larger tents similar to this one can make a superb choice for people who prefer having plenty of space inside the tent.

Many of the fantastic things about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part light, making them easy to carry around. In nearly all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very simple to set up. In good weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are easily the most common of all the different types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in bad weather than other types, allowing rain to roll off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the rain to pool on the top of the tent. The most straightforward dome tent should have a rectangular floor, slanted walls a couple of poles which converge in the center of the roof. Because of their construction, it is usually thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Underneath you can check out a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

  1. Freestanding. The Evanston can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Plenty of space. With a peak height of 74 inches (more than 6 feet) and a floor area of 144 square feet, the Evanston gives you a lot of space. Most campers can stand inside the tent without ducking their heads.
  3. Internal storage. It is good to see Coleman has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your stuff.
  4. Has awnings. The awnings shelter the sides of the tent.
  5. Lots of Positive Reviews The Evanston 8 has Plenty of excellent Reviews
  6. Available in other sizes. Coleman has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  7. Low price. It is a great purchase for a 8 person dome tent that provides this much space. Not a lot of tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $249.99

  1. Sensitive to wind. Because of its size and shape, the Evanston may not do best in strong winds if it is not firmly secured with the provided guy lines and stakes. Even though the tent is listed as freestanding in all but very calm conditions, one would want to stake and tie it down correctly.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 9% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some people.
  3. Only one room. The Evanston is suggested for 8 people, many other tents of a similar size have more than one room allowing for a little more privacy.
  4. No Vestibules. If you want to keep your dirty shoes, clothes, and backpacks protected from the elements, you will have to store them inside the tent.
  5. Rainfly does not completely cover the tent body. The rainfly only covers the ceiling and part of the tent body from the top. Meaning it may not protect against heavy rain.
  6. Fiberglass poles. Poles made of fiberglass help to keep the price down, they do though tend to be not as strong. This is yet another reason to only use the Evanston in decent weather.
  7. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of Polyethylene 1000D but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  8. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many qualities to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

4.6 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.6 STARS

Coleman's Evanston 8 tent is suitable for car camping. There are a couple of other nice points not mentioned above which, we noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: Expandable carry bag lets you tear away the rip strip for easy packing, Storage pockets to keep your gear organized and Hinged door for easy entry and exit.

With fantastic ratings, plenty of reviews and a center height of 6' and 144 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your own little home away from home. This enables you together with 7 other people to spend some delightful moments camping together. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can read through above.

If you came to this page looking for recommendations on this particular tent, we consider, it will make for an excellent acquisition. In case you just happened to land on this website while looking for a brand new tent having never heard of this brand or this model before, it is probably a good thing to look at a few more similar tents.

Value for money: In so much as value for your dollar, this tent is undoubtedly more competitive than the normal price point of all the sixty-two, eight-person tents we have studied, all alone this does not make it good value for money. We also need to take a look at other areas in-depth, as we do for every tent.

When we tally up the overall score of a single tent, we examine plenty of things, searching for things where the tent could outperform other very similar tents and where it is coming up short. On this occasion, with a total score of 4.6 and the price conclusions above, one can view that with a cost of $249.99 The Evanston 8 is an excellent buy and fabulously priced in comparison with similar tents.

The overall score shows that the quality and space the tent offers were not in any way skimped on to get a price well beneath the average price for similar tents. It should make a superb choice for nearly all campers searching for an adequate three-season dome tent to go camping in, that should serve you well for years to come.
