SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Evanston 6 has one window and one door and a maximum center height of 6' 0, which is a tiny bit smaller than the average height of the 117 different 6 person tents we have examined With 110 square feet of space inside, it is a little bit larger than some other 6-person tents, and it should accommodate you and, up to five other campers throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, larger tents similar to this one often make a very good choice for families that welcome having heaps of space for sleeping and hanging out.

Some of the cool points about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances light, making them simple to carry around. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you can do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are easily the most commonly seen of all the different types of tents you will find when camping. They tend to fair better in bad weather than other types, allowing rain to roll off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the rain to pool on the roof. The most basic dome tent will have a rectangular footprint, sloped sides two or more poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Due to their construction, it is generally thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Below you can check out an account of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Evanston can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Internal storage. It is nice to see Coleman has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  3. Has awnings. The awnings shelter the sides of the tent.
  4. Available in other sizes. Coleman has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  5. Low price. It is a great deal for a 6 person dome tent that provides this much space. Not a lot of tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $179.99

CONS

  1. Sensitive to wind. Because of its size and shape, the Evanston may not do best in strong winds if it is not firmly secured with the provided guy lines and stakes. Even though the tent is listed as freestanding in all but very calm conditions, one would want to stake and tie it down correctly.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 9% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some people.
  3. Only one room. The Evanston is suggested for 6 campers, some other tents of a similar size have more than one room allowing for a little more privacy.
  4. No Vestibules. If you want to keep your dirty shoes, clothes, and backpacks protected from the elements, you will have to keep them inside the tent.
  5. Rainfly does not completely cover the tent. The rainfly only covers the ceiling and part of the tent body from the top. Meaning it may not protect against heavy rain.
  6. Fiberglass poles. Poles constructed of fiberglass help to keep the price down, they do though tend to be not as strong. This is yet another reason to only use the Evanston in calm weather.
  7. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of Polyethylene 1000D but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, more so on rough terrain.
  8. Out of Stock. Unfortunately this particular tent is not currently in stock. It is still on the manufactures website the last time we looked.
  9. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of qualities to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION
