Tent Set Up

Color coded webbing and buckles make set up easy

Summary: Favorable Reviews

It's so easy to set up. It's stable during windy conditions. It's super roomy also inside nothing negative I can say about this one ideal for large families wanting to spend a few weeks away from home.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

It doesn't work too well in rainy weather, and we had a couple of minor leaks. Setting it up is also a bit of a problem. You might need other people to help you set this up.

The Flying Diamond 8 is Big Agnes's largest tent, and it has two doors and a peak center height of 6' 0, which is a tiny bit smaller than the average height of the 51 various 8 person tents we have examined With 123 square feet of room inside, it is significantly smaller than some other 8-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, up to seven other campers throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, larger tents similar to this one generally make an excellent choice for people that welcome having lots of space inside the tent.

A few of the fantastic things about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part light, making them easy to carry. In nearly all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very easy to set up. In calm weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are easily the most common of all the various sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in bad weather than other types, allowing water to roll off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the water pooling on the top. The most basic dome tent should have a rectangular footprint, sloped walls a couple of poles which cross in the center of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is usually thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 campers. Many modifed dome tents contain more than a single room, similar to the Big Agnes Flying Diamond two-room tent

Beneath you can browse an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

  1. Freestanding. The Flying Diamond can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is nice to see Big Agnes has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one room. The Flying Diamond is designed with two rooms, allowing for more privacy. Ideal for a large family and groups who do not want to be all sleeping together.
  5. Removable divider. For those who would like to maximize all of the available space that the Flying Diamond provides, the divider can be detached to have one large room for everyone to share.
  6. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  8. Other sizes are available. Big Agnes has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  9. Low price. It is a great purchase for a 8 person modifed dome tent providing this much space. Not many tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $616.69 info_outline

  1. Susceptible to wind. Because of its size and shape, the Flying Diamond may not do well in strong winds if it is not firmly secured with the provided guy lines and stakes. Even though the tent is listed as freestanding in all but very calm conditions, one would want to stake and tie it down correctly.
  2. Not roomy. With a floor area of 123 square feet, the Flying Diamond 8 is smaller than quite a few of the 51 other 8 person tents we have looked at.
  3. Lacking in Headroom. With 9% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some people.
  4. No windows. With no windows it is not easy to keep the tent cool on a hot summers night.
  5. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately designed for the Flying Diamond 8 footprint Even though the floor may be made of Coated polyester, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.

Value for money: As far as value for your dollar, this tent is more competitive than the average price of all the fifty-three, eight-person tents we have looked at, this alone does not make it good value for money. We also need to take into account other factors in detail, as we do with every tent.

When we calculate the overall score of a tent, we scrutinize a lot of stuff, searching for things where the tent could excel against other similar tents and where it is not quite as good.
