Summary: Favorable Reviews

People who bought the tent said: That it is very spacious for a one-person tent. They love that it is designed with a large vestibule for storing gear. The canvas is made with quality materials. It's light enough for solo trips but not light enough for the ultralights. They were impressed with the height of this tent, allowing the user to sit up and not feel claustrophobic fully. Nighttime rain and fresh westerly winds and found it to be warm, waterproof. I love the mesh pockets in the ceiling.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who have camped with the tent mentioned that: This tent is light enough for solo backpacking and still leaves you a little more room for your gear; however, it's not lite enough for the ultralights. Even though the Elixir comes with a footprint, the footprint straps are too long, and it wouldn't stay connected.

The Elixir 1 has one door and a maximum center height of 3' 3, which is a tiny bit smaller than the average height of the 72 other 1 person tents we have studied. With 20 square feet of space inside, it is significantly smaller than some other 1-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you during the whole of the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, smaller tents similar to this one are a fantastic choice for campers that love spending heaps of hours outside exploring the great outdoors.

Some of the fantastic points about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking lightweight, making them easy to carry around. In near all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most common of all the different types of tents you will find when camping. They tend to fair better in bad weather than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the water to pool on the top. The simplest dome tent should have a square floor, slanted sides a couple of poles which cross in the center of the roof. Due to their construction, it is typically thought of that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Below you can find an account of the tent's pros and cons.

  1. Freestanding. The Elixir can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Gives you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is nice to see MSR adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 70D taffeta nylon polyurethane & DWR, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 3000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  5. Includes FootPrint. It is quite rare to see a footprint included with the tent. It is suggested to always use a footprint, so not having to buy one is a bonus.
  6. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  7. Great Ratings The Elixir 1 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on
  8. Other sizes are available. MSR has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  9. Low price. It is a great buy for a 1 person dome tent providing this much room. Not many tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $199.95

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 20 square feet, the Elixir 1 is smaller than quite a few of the 72 other 1 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of attributes to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

4.8 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.8 STARS

MSR's Elixir 1 tent is suitable for backpacking. Here are a few other nice points not noted above which, were noticed and liked, while researching the model: Unique pole geometry optimizes headroom and fits one large mat; adaptable rainfly allows for excellent view, the glow-in-the-dark zipper pull is easy to find at night and the MSR Elixir tent combines a fast and easy setup with generous accommodations.

With very good ratings, a decent amount of reviews and a peak height of 3' and 20 square feet of area to sleep, this tent is like your very own little studio. This will allow you to enjoy some really enjoyable time hanging out with nature. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can look at above.

If you found this page looking for recommendations about this particular tent, we consider, it would make for an awesome acquisition. If you simply happened to land on this page while browsing for a brand new tent having never heard of this brand or this model before, it is possibly a good idea to look at a few other similar tents also.

Value for money: When considering value for money, this tent is a lot more competitive than the normal cost of all the one hundred, one-person tents we have studied, this alone by itself does not make it remarkable value for money. We also need to take into account other things in-depth, as we do with each tent.

When we determine the ratings of an individual tent, we look at plenty of data points, searching for areas where the tent could perform well against other near-identical tents and where it is coming up short. On this occasion, with an overall rating of 4.8 and the price conclusions above, one can spot that with a price of $199.95 MSR's Elixir 1 is a remarkable bargain and fabulously competitively priced when compared with comparable tents.

Its ratings show that the quality and size the tent offers were not in any way compromised to finish up with a price tag undoubtedly beneath the standard price for comparable tents. It is also worth noting it is discounted by 0% from the manufactures suggested price. It could make a remarkable choice for most campers looking for an adequate three-season backpacking tent to go camping with, that should serve you well for years to come.
