Green Thumbs Up Logo

Summary: Favorable Reviews

Quite easy to set up. Fully freestanding so that it can be pitched on almost any terrain. The tent has two doors and a single vestibule per entry. Also includes a gear loft for extra storage space.

Teal Thumbs Down Logo

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

The sleeping area is a little tight for six people. The fiberglass poles can not be considered as sturdy as their aluminum counterparts. The rainfly is also not full coverage.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Hawthorne 6 has two windows and two doors and a maximum center height of 6' 0 which is a little bit less than the average height of the 105 other 6 person tents we have studied. With 100 square feet of space inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 6-person tents, and it could be a little tight for you and, up to five other campers throughout the 3-seasons this tent is recommended for. Larger tents similar to this one can make an awesome choice for groups who prefer having heaps of room inside of the tent.

Many of the fantastic points about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances lightweight, making them simple to carry. In nearly all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very easy to set up. In good weather, you can do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes 'not that this is recommended' Dome tents are the most common of all the various sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing water to roll off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the water pooling on the top. The simplest dome tent will have a square floor, slanted sides a couple of poles which converge in the center of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is generally considered that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Down below, you can see an account of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Hawthorne can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Browning Camping adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  3. Has awnings. The awnings shelter the sides of the tent.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. More than one window. With 2 windows it is simple to keep the tent cool on a hot summers night.
  6. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  7. Available in other sizes. Browning Camping has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  8. Low price. It is a great buy for a 6 person dome tent providing this much space. Not a lot of tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $199.99 info_outline

CONS

  1. Vulnerable to wind. Because of its size and shape, the Hawthorne may not do well in strong winds if it is not firmly secured with the provided guy lines and stakes. Even though the tent is listed as freestanding in all but very calm conditions, one would need to stake and tie it down correctly.
  2. Not roomy. With a floor area of 100 square feet, the Hawthorne 6 is smaller than quite a few of the 105 other 6 person tents we have looked at.
  3. Only one room. The Hawthorne is designed for 6 campers, some other tents of a similar size have more than one room allowing for a little more privacy.
  4. No Vestibules. If you want to keep your dirty shoes, clothes, and backpacks protected from the rain etc, you must store them inside the tent.
  5. Uses Fiberglass poles. Even though the poles are comprised of shock-corded fiberglass. Using even some fiberglass with a big tent like the Hawthorne 6 could possibly lead to problems, if there were to be extreemly windy conditions.
  6. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately designed for the Hawthorne 6 footprint The floor may be made of 75D 185T polyester taffeta, it is still though best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  7. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of things to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.1 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.1 STARS

Browning Camping's Hawthorne 6 tent is great for car camping, here are a couple of other cool things not already mentioned above which, were noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: Weatherproof fly with a ridge pole provides an awning over each door, Factory-sealed fly and floor seams provide best weather protection and Fiberglass poles with a larger diameter than most standard poles and will provide you with a sturdier, stronger tent..

With wonderful ratings, and a center height of 6' and 100 square feet of space to enjoy, this tent is like your own small house. It will allow you together with 4 other friends to spend some really enjoyable moments enjoying nature. We found some decent positive points that you can check out above.

If you came to this page looking for an endorsement on this particular tent, our view is, it should make for an excellent acquisition. If you just happened to arrive on this website while browsing for a new tent having never heard of this brand or this tent model previously, it is possibly a good idea to check out some other similar tents also.

Value for money: In so much as value for your dollar, this tent is a more competitive than the mean cost of all the one hundred and six, six-person tents we have taken a look at, this just by itself does not make it remarkable value for money. One should also take a look at other things in-depth, as we do for every tent.

When we tally up the score of an individual tent, we consider loads of data points looking for areas where the tent could excel against other similar tents and where it is lacking. In this case, with an overall rating of 4.1 and the price conclusions above, we can recognize that with a cost of $199.99 info_outline

The Hawthorne 6 is a great deal and fabulously competitively priced when compared with similar tents. Its overall score shows that the quality and space the tent offers were not skimped on to get a price well below the median price for comparable tents. It could make a fantastic choice for nearly all campers searching for an appropriate three-season dome tent to camp in, that will serve you well for years to come.
