The Battle Mountain 3 has two windows and two doors and a peak center height of 3' 8 which is 11 inches less than the average height of the 126 various 3 person tents we have looked at. With 44 square feet of room inside, it is a tiny bit smaller than some other 3-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, up to two other campers during the 4-seasons this tent is approved for. Smaller tents like this one often make an ideal choice for campers who like spending loads of time outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

Many of the cool points about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part not too heavy, making them simple to carry around. In nearly all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very simple to set up. In good weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are the most common of all the other sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the slanted walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the rain to pool on the top. The most straightforward dome tent should have a rectangular floor, slanted sides two or more poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is generally considered that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Below you can check out a list of the tent's pros and cons.

  1. Freestanding. The Battle Mountain can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Affords you a place to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Big Agnes adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. Has awnings. The awnings protect the walls of the tent.
  5. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  6. More than one window. With 2 openings it is easier to keep the tent cool on a hot summers night.
  7. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is Nylon taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 10000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  8. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1200mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  9. Excellent Ratings The Battle Mountain 3 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on
  10. Available in other sizes. Big Agnes has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 44 square feet, the Battle Mountain 3 is smaller than quite a few of the 126 other 3 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 11% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some campers.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately designed for the Battle Mountain 3 footprint Even though the floor may be made of Nylon taffeta, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. Out of Stock. Unfortunately this particular tent is not currently in stock. It is still on the manufactures site the last time we looked.
  5. A tad heavy for backpacking. Even though the Battle Mountain 3, looks like a small tent, it is not probably the best choice for backpacking as it weighs 8 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  6. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many things to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
  7. Storage Space. Due to the size of the tent, one cannot store much gear inside..

Value for money: As far as value for your money, this tent is without a doubt more expensive than the usual price of all the one hundred and eighty, three-person tents we have looked at, this alone is not a negative thing. We also need to look at other areas in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we calculate the valuation of an individual tent, we consider a lot of stuff, looking for points where the tent could outdo other comparable tents and where it is coming up short. In this case, with an overall rating of 4.5 and the price info above, It is simple to notice that with a cost of $849.95 info_outline The Battle Mountain 3 is a remarkable purchase though it may be perceived as very costly when compared with similar tents.

It should make a good choice for most people searching for an adequate four-season dome tent to camp with, that should serve you well for years to come.
