Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

The money that you will spend equates the quality that you will get. A footprint is needed for keeping water out. Getting another floor saver would be better because the one that goes with the tent is a little costly. Bringing a small fan is a good idea cause it may get a bit warm inside, especially when its a warm weather.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Chaos 3 has two doors and a maximum center height of 3' 5 which is 14 inches smaller than the average height of the 126 various 3 person tents we have looked at. With 41 square feet of room inside, it is a lot smaller than some other 3-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you and, up to two other campers during the whole of the 3-seasons this tent is suggested for. Smaller tents similar to this one can make a really nice choice for campers who love spending plenty of time outside exploring the great outdoors.

Many of the great points about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part light, making them easy to carry. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very simple to set up. In good weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most common of all the other types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in storms than other types, allowing rain to roll off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the rain to pool on the top of the tent. The simplest dome tent will have a square floor, slanted walls two or more poles which cross in the center of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is usually thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Beneath you can browse a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Chaos can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Offers you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Alps adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. Has a screened area. Having a screened area that is separated from the main body of the tent is a big plus.
  5. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  6. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 3000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  7. Breathable. The Chaos's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  8. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  9. Other sizes are available. Alps has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great purchase for a 3 person dome tent that provides this much space. Not many tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $203.48 info_outline

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 41 square feet, the Chaos 3 is smaller than quite a lot of the 126 other 3 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 14% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some campers.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately specifically for the Chaos 3 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. A tad heavy for backpacking. Even though the Chaos 3, looks like a small tent, it is not probably the best choice for backpacking as it weighs 6 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of attributes to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
  6. Storage Space. Due to the size of the tent, one cannot store a lot of gear inside..
