Summary: Favorable Reviews

It is not an ultralight backpacking tent, but it is not too heavy. Easy to fold it up after use. I was also surprised to the fact that the rainfly, poles, stakes, and everything fit into the backpack. Space also is more than enough. You can have 2-3 people on it plus your gears or a medium to large dog.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Moderately breathable during warm weather. It's not best to use during high wind or adverse weather. The rain fly seemed to absorb some water during heavy rain. However, it wasn't that of a big deal since it didn't drip on me, and I stayed dry.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Chaos 2 has two doors and a maximum center height of 3' 4, which is 11 inches smaller than the average height of the 204 different 2 person tents we have examined With 33 square feet of space inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it could be a little tight for you and, another camper all through the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents like this one make a fantastic choice for campers that love spending heaps of hours outside of their tent exploring.

Some of the great points about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part lightweight, making them easy to carry. In most all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very easy to set up. In calm weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are the most commonly seen of all the different sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in the rain than other types, allowing rain to roll off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the rain pooling on the top. The most basic dome tent will have a rectangular footprint, sloped sides a couple of poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is usually considered that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Down below, you can see an account of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Chaos can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Alps Mountaineering adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 3000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  6. Breathable. The Chaos's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  7. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  8. Plenty of Positive Reviews The Chaos 2 has Plenty of fantastic Reviews
  9. Remarkable Ratings The Chaos 2 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  10. Other sizes are available. Alps Mountaineering has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  11. Low price. It is a great deal for a 2 person dome tent providing this much room. Not many tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $189.99

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 33 square feet, the Chaos 2 is smaller than quite a lot of the 204 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 11% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some campers.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately designed for the Chaos 2 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have many attributes to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.9 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.9 STARS

Alps Mountaineering's Chaos 2 tent is ideal for backpacking. There are a couple of other things not noted above which, we noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: Extra guy-outs on fly to stabilize tent in bad weather, Extra large #8 zippers on doors and vestibules and The poles are all shock corded together as one continuous system. .

With excellent ratings, lots of reviews and headroom of 3' and 33 square feet of space for sleeping, this tent is like your very own miniature studio. This will allow you to enjoy some really enjoyable time hanging out with nature. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can study above.

If you found this page looking for recommendations on this actual tent, we consider, it will make for a very good purchase. In case you simply happened to arrive on this page while browsing for a new tent having not heard of this manufacurer or this model before, it is possibly a good thing to check out some more comparable tents also.

Value for money: In terms of value for your money, this tent is undoubtedly more competitive than the average cost of all the two hundred and eighty-five, two-person tents we have taken a look at, this itself does not make it excellent value for money. We also need to take a look at other factors in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we tally up the valuation of a single tent, we study a good deal of things, looking for areas where the tent could shine against other very similar tents and where it is lacking. On this occasion, with a total score of 4.9 and the price statistics above, It is simple to see that with a price of $189.99 The Chaos 2 is a superb deal and incredibly cheap when compared with similar tents.

The overall score shows that the build and space the tent gives you were not in any way skimped on to get a price tag unquestionably under the standard price for comparable tents. It is also worth thinking about the fact that it is reduced by 5% from the manufactures suggested retail price. It should make a remarkable choice for most people looking for a comfortable three-season backpacking tent to camp with, that should serve you well for years to come.
