Summary: Favorable Reviews

People who bought this tent noted that: After setting this tent up and leaving it up for 48hours Iím happy to say that no leaks and the tent was still standing. I used this in Alaska in warmer and colder weather, opened up the ventilation at night, and stayed perfect.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers, who used it, said that: The only downside IMO is that it only comes with six tent stakes for the four corners and the vestibule of the rain fly.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Kodiak 2 has one door and a peak center height of 3' 7, which is a tiny bit smaller than the average height of the 235 other 2 person tents we have studied. With 26 square feet of space inside, it is significantly smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you and, another camper during the 4-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents similar to this one generally make an awesome choice for campers that appreciate spending loads of time outside exploring the great outdoors.

Many of the great things about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances light, making them easy to carry around. In most all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very easy to set up. In good weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are the most common of all the different types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in bad weather than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, resulting in the water pooling on the roof. The most basic dome tent will have a square footprint, sloped sides two or more poles which converge in the center of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is generally considered that they are ideal for up to a maximum of 6 people.

PROS

  1. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Gives you a place to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  2. Internal storage. It is nice to see Nemo Equipment has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  3. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 30D PeU Nylon Ripstop, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 3000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  4. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 26 square feet, the Kodiak 2 is smaller than quite a few of the 246 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 5% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some campers.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of 30D PeU Nylon Ripstop but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. Out of Stock. Unfortunately this particular tent is not currently in stock. It is still on the manufactures website the last time we checked.
  5. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of things to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

If you simply happened to arrive on this page while looking for a brand new tent having never heard of this brand or this tent before, it is possibly a good idea to look at a few more comparable tents.

Value for money: When thinking about value for your money, this tent is a tiny bit more pricey than the standard price point of all the two hundred and thirty-five, two-person tents we have looked at, all alone this is not a negative thing. We also need to take a look at other factors in-depth, as we do with each tent.

When we measure the ratings of a single tent, we consider tons of conditions, searching for things where the tent could outperform other near-identical tents and where it is lacking. On this occasion, with an overall rating of 4.3 and the price data above, It is simple to notice that with a price point of $519.95 The Kodiak 2 is a good purchase the cost is not at all unreasonable when set side by side with comparable tents.
