Summary: Favorable Reviews

Campers who bought the tent mentioned: Extremely easy to set up, and the poles are all color-coded. I love the overhead storage and the height of the center. You will definitely be able to find it in a crowded campsite. The first night in the rain resulted in it staying bone dry on the inside.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

People who purchased the tent said: My only two dislikes were the latch system for tying back the screen or fly and the round stakes. A few more pockets would be nice, though.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Ranger Doug 4 has two doors and a maximum center height of 4' 6, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 134 other 4 person tents we have studied. With 61 square feet of space inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, up to three other campers throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents similar to this one often can make an excellent choice for people who love spending plenty of time outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

A few of the great points about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part light, making them easy to carry around. In near all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very easy to set up. In good weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most common of all the various sorts of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in bad weather than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat tops, allowing the rain to pool on the top of the tent. The most straightforward dome tent should have a rectangular footprint, sloped walls a couple of poles which converge in the center of the roof. Because of their construction, it is usually thought of that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Down below, you can check out an account of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Ranger Doug can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you a place to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is nice to see Kelty has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your gear.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Breathable. The Ranger Doug's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  6. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1800mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.
  7. Other sizes are available. Kelty has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  8. Low price. It is a great deal for a 4 person dome tent that provides this much room. Not many tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $329.95 info_outline

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 61 square feet, the Ranger Doug 4 is smaller than quite a lot of the 134 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 9% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some campers.
  3. No windows. With no windows it is not simple to keep the tent ventilated on a hot summers night.
  4. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of 68D Polyester but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  5. A tad heavy for backpacking. Even though the Ranger Doug 4, looks like a small tent, it is not probably the best choice for backpacking as it weighs 10 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  6. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of attributes to be positive about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.2 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.2 STARS

Kelty's Ranger Doug 4 tent is suitable for bicycle & motorbike camping. There are a few other cool things not noted above which, we found and liked, while reviewing the model: Poles insert easily into sleeves making set up seamless and fast, EZ-Zip vestibule with fully taped seams and Proven geodesic structure is reliable & quiet in the wind.

With great ratings, and a center height of 4' and 61 square feet of space for sleeping, this tent is like your very own miniature flat. This will allow you and up to 2 other people to enjoy some delightful time camping together. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can study above.

If you came to this page looking for recommendations about this actual tent, we think, it will make for a great acquisition. If you simply happened to land on this website while browsing for a new tent having not heard of this manufacture or this tent before, it is perhaps a good idea to check out some other similar tents.

Value for money: When thinking about value for money, this tent is without a doubt more competitive than the standard price of all the one hundred and fifty-four, four-person tents we have taken a look at, this by itself does not make it excellent value for money. We also need to take into account other things in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we calculate the valuation of a tent, we reflect upon tons of areas, searching for areas where the tent could outdo other comparable tents and where it is not quite as good. In this case, with an overall rating of 4.3 and the price statistics above, one can notice that with a cost of $329.95 info_outline Kelty's Ranger Doug 4 is a decent deal and fabulously competitively priced in comparison with comparable tents.

The overall score shows that the quality and dimensions the tent provides were not skimped on to finish up with a price well under the normal price for similar tents. It is also worth thinking about the fact that it is reduced by 0% from the manufactures suggested retail price. It will make an excellent choice for most campers searching for an adequate three-season dome tent to go camping with, that will serve you well for years to come.
